Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go is a go
Just one day after we scooped fresh product shots of Virgin Mobile USA’s first mobile broadband device, the Novatel Wireless MC760, the company has announced the availability of its contract-free Broadband2Go service. Touted as a 3G nationwide wireless Internet service, the MVNO’s new offering is sure to pique the interest of infrequent travelers and light mobile broadband users who simply can’t justify a $60 per month service for sporadic usage. Out of the gate, the pricing structure is a bit different than we had believed back when we first broke news of the coming broadband offering. Users will be able to purchase Broadband2Go Top-Up cards in the following denominations:
- $10 — 100MB usable for 10 days
- $20 — 250MB usable for 30 days
- $40 — 600MB usable for 30 days
- $60 — 1GB usable for 30 days
On the surface these options appear to be a bit pricey but again, postpaid options from other carriers can cost $720 per year or more. For users who only need mobile broadband access a few months out of each year, spending a total of $60, $120 or even $180 for Top-Up cards that will get them through a full year translates into massive savings.
good, but where is their service available? even Tmobile has a lot of work to do, in terms of coverage.

I wouldn’t mind paying for this if the limit was more than 30 days. Pay as you go voice plans usually give you plenty of time before the minutes expire… I rememeber my mom would last on one $25 card for almost a year.
I know, it’s not the same, but you would almost have to buy this just for the times you KNOW you’re going to use it… doesn’t that defeat the purpose? I thought the point was that you only use it sporadically so rather than spend $60 – 70 every month, you could spend $60 and use it as you need it. What’s the point if it expires in 30 days and you have to buy another one the next month? So you’re spending $60 a month anyway! I don’t mind the prices, but at least give people 90 days, at the LEAST.
Cellular broadband is never going to take off if they don’t figure out some better pricing solutions… that goes for ALL carriers.

I couldn’t agree more with everything you said, should be able to buy a card and use it as needed I mean you pay for the air time its yours when u need it. Asfar as pricing goes I would love to have this or a monthly subscription but paying that much for internet is insane, if pricing becomes reasonable this is a useful tool for many in the business wold, great for students on the go and for many home users but at current price points it is unreasonable for most users.
I have to disagree that plan blows chunks…….. it sux………….5gb that the nationals give out sux a big one 1 gig thats horrible
$60 for 1GB. I can get a air card from VZW and for $60 get 5GB. Or even better, I can tether my Curve (soon to be TOUR, when vz gets the ball moving) for only $15 a month for 5GB.
Virgin, that’s not cheap at all. I guess if you don’t want a contract its ok. But if I didn’t want a contract I would just buy the adapter for the extra $150.

For all the Snowbirds who are only in the USA for a couple months a year and other frequent travelers to the USA from Canada this sounds like a great idea (although I agree with the above posters, pricing could be better) but another very important question is after the expiry of your card how long does the account remain active? With many prepaid cell phones in Canada and the USA if your card/credit expires after 30 days you get another 60 or so to put money in the account before the account/line expires and you have to open a new one if you want to have prepaid service again. How is this prepaid internet going to work? The same way?

The $10 plan should last for 30 days…
The other plans should last for 90 days…
That way, if I know I’m going on a trip next month I can buy a 90 day plan… or if I suddenly have to go away for the weekend, I buy the $10 plan to check on emails and do light browsing at the hotel.

I had cricket . .both modems failed within 3 weeks each . .they wanted me to buy another one . . the access most of the time was terrible. .speed was bad and would always drop off. . I would never do business with this company ever again. .
VMU will provide an online portal to keep tabs on how much data and time you have left as well as a handy activity chart of sorts that lets you know how much browsing is allocated for your pre-purchased data.
