New images of Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 surface

Well lookie what we have here — a few juicy new images of Sony Ericsson’s second Xperia handset, the X2, have just surfaced over on the Esato forums. Looking stellar in a full silver overcoat, the X2 shows off its sleek design and PC-like keys. These are indeed the first device-on shots of the X2 so we also get a glimpse of the handset running Windows Mobile 6.5 in all of its glory. To refresh your memory, here are the rumored specs as reported earlier this week:

  • 8.1mpx auto focus, VGA @ 30fps (MP4 HQ)
  • 3.5-inch WVGA OLED (increased from 3.0 from X1)
  • GPS, aGPS
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • Accelerometer
  • Faster processor
  • 512 RAM
  • Custom Windows Mobile 6.5 (SE engineers customized Win6.5 which runs very. very speedy. in par with iPhone and better in some cases)
  • XPERIA Panels are modified with plenty of innovative features (PS3 remote play being one of them)
  • Upgrading to Windows Mobile 7 is supported by Xperia panels

Presuming Sony Ericsson can manage to ship this puppy some time before Window Mobile 9 drops, it should definitely compete well with other high-end WinMo handsets due to hit the market soon. Hit the jump for more shots.

Thanks, Funky!

After seeing the TP2… this is definitely not sexy, not even close to it.

The keyboard doesn’t look that great, and I’d really be excited about a number row…

I’m going to be honest. I just want that camera in a Touch Pro 2 or an Omnia II that has a (good) QWERTY keyboard.

Oh, I also want all of that in a CDMA handset. I’ll also take a unicorn that shits $100 bills, while I’m at it.

AHHHHH I can’t deside between the Nokia N97, HTC Touch Pro 2 and the Xperia X2…..i wish i could have all 3 with the same number

Well, this one has 8.1 Meg camera, and with flash.
I was going to buy TP2, but I am sold on XperiaII now.

I really like the angular nature of the X1. This is nice looking but the Black X1 is plain sexy. The keyboard looks like something from the 1980’s on this new X2 deal. Yikes. SE makes either the sweetest looking phone around or they make an ugly duckling. No in between.

So the picture shows the processor as “arm1136ejs msm7200″ which is a 400mhz processor.

I thought this one was supposed to be faster, whats the deal?

I’m sold on this phone. With all the high-end specs and WM 6.5, it’s just awesome. I just hope it doesn’t suffer from the engineering design flaws that the X1 had, like cracks in the housing.

anyone else noticing the similarities of the Zune menu and the menu screen shown above? I’d always hoped WM would incorporate that style into something…..

I think the processor is the MSM7200A since this is the one found in the xperia X1 I believe

hmm… looks like this thing will be substantially larger than the x1… if it has a 3.5 inch screen, but area around the screen looks about the same.

That’s good for the keyboard, which is one of the only weakpoints on the X1.

I think I’ll be holding on to my X1 until the X3 is announced, or at least an Omnia with a full keyboard… oh heck maybe even a Touch Pro 3.

Give me a HTC HD with full Keyboard (like the TP2), Mirasol display, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and running Android OS and I’m done….for the time being anyway. Oh….and wireless recharging.

The keyboard looks great. A miniature version of a real keyboard. It looks like it will be pricey though when it is released.

Danny Morgan: You’ll note that I didn’t say “a unicorn whose shit has $100 bills in it.” Rather, I said “a unicorn that shits $100 bills.” There would be no cleanup; just picking up dead presidents and lulz. ;-)

Clair: Unsubsidized? You’re probably looking at ~$900.

oinkflu: AT&T, most likely. If you’re lucky, it’ll support North American 3G bands.

Can anyone explain to me why killer handhelds like this and the N97 sit around collecting dust at unsubsidized prices that no one is willing to pay…when they could be among the best selling units of the year?

Whats the real reason behind the lack of US carrier support.
