The reason why AT&T won’t support MMS with the iPhone until “late Summer”, tethering info!

We were just told the real reason why AT&T won’t be supporting MMS on the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G S at launch, and you’re going to laugh… Technically it will work right away our ninja tells us. The are no extra plans or higher fees we’ve just learned (the unlimited $20 package covers unlimited SMS and MMS), and the reason it’s not good to go right away is because AT&T has to manually remove all the “Opt Out MMS codes” on each account. Basically, if we were to summarize this, and we’re going out a little bit of a limb, remove the Opt Out MMS code, and MMS will work with the final OS 3.0 build right away. Who wants to try it with the GM 3.0 build just released?

We’ve also just heard that tethering will be 100% locked out at launch, but AT&T’s in the process of putting together a $70/mo unlimited data and tethering plan. SMS and MMS will not be included in that plan, we’re told.

It is so sad that the barbaric pricing structure you describe is something I could imagine them doing – especially with the ‘unlimited’ data they charge so much for on the phone itself.

Not including MMS is sick, disgusting, and sounds just like AT&T. Can’t wait till Apple makes other options available and AT&T stock CRATERS as the exodus begins in return for all of this.

Whatever the margin is, AT&T shouldn’t call the data plan unlimited if it isn’t. We’re all locked in here, feeling ripped off by AT&T, paying about a thousand bucks each into the company.

AT&T deserves no kickback from the App Store, all they do is impede it by restraining competition. AT&T is the reason I can’t use Skype when I’m driving around. But AT&T is also the only reason I use Skype at all – because their network is so unreliable that I can’t run a business on it.

so is this something that might be fixed in a week? Or is AT&T going to drag it out like they said?

When I first put an iphone on my account (out of contract iphone) replacing a palm treo, they forgot to put the MMS opt-out so I never got the message nor did I get the viewmymessage.com txt. So I eventually had to call CS and have them add it, once I figured it out.

Anyone call to get them to remove it since I would imagine if they can forget to put it on, it must mean that they can take it off seperately.

Are you people really this stupid? MMS block is needed to redirect an MMS message to an other server, that’s when you get a message with a link to a picture that was sent to you. Without it the system will think that you have received a message, even if the phone doesn’t support it and you’ll just never get anything. So that was a workaround that AT&T came up with to help you whining lil b… out. And now you all mad? WTF? As far as removing blocks manually, some idiot had a dump theory and you all believed it? Are you people this stupid? Really? Just chill for ones, it’ll all be OK, and everybody would be happy again.

So you don’t think the system needs to know or do anything special with mms’s sent to iphones?

What happens now when iphones get mms’s? Don’t they get a link to a webpage to go an view that mms? Do you think that happens by itself?

No it doesn’t and that’s why the codes are in place.

You’re a fool if you think Apple and Verizon wouldn’t jump at the chance to be in bed together. 80 million new customers is reason enough. Apple WILL make a device for Verizon in 2010, I guarantee it.

LTE and CDMA together voids your voice and data limitation argument.

Apple won’t dump AT&T for Verizon, they will make devices for both carriers.

I have to agree with 99.9% of all the 5 pages on tonight’s blog…….
this shit w/ AT&T is outrageous….I think Apple is sadly locked up with At&t for now, and might even be aware of the problem with their “carrier”…and since they know they f***ed up, they want the customers to retaliate and now Apple has a reason to get outta the deal by adding someone like verizon…that regardless how expensive verizon is, at least they have a awesome network……
at the end, Apple still makes $$$ since the iphone is so internationally known and all….although it costs almost 3x more in Brazil than in here, but suckers will still buy it and sell their souls to At&t.

Im veryyy confused right now in terms of getting the iphone, since my downside is the keyboard since i have some crazy long nails, BUT, IF Im not 100% (or even less!) I WILL pull a T-mobile on them & happily hand them $150 just so I never see their service again! =)

or I’ll just go right back to Verizon…..f*** it.

AT&T can go screw themselves. They are already raping me with a huge monthly sevice bill and they pull this bullshit! How long have they known about this? When my contract is up, I’m gone. Good job AT&T, your gonna loss three lines and a customer of almost 5 years. Poor, poor, poor customer service. When the exclusivity contract is up, I hope Apple dumps there ass!

Buying an iPhone without MMS is the technological equivalent of the movie Pretty Woman – she’s sexy; she’s beautiful; you drop $300 on her dinner and in the end she’ll do everything but kiss you.

Money grubbing bastards comes to mind when I think of AT&T. Old men with long great beards riling on a pile money laughing dr evil laugh.

I can wait to have more carrier competition and it’s coming soon. So don’t upgrade your phone unless you love old men with freaky laughs. Wait for verizon and iPhone (man I hope I don’t regret saying that).

can’t you delete a line (your current line), pay 18 bucks or whatever that cancelation fee is, and then add another line (readd a line with the same number), ive done it before rearranging the family plan to get around apples “excepts” on there coupons (2 years ago~ish).

I can tell you that there is a MMS block that comes automatic but that it’s not that we (AT&T) don’t want people to be able to MMS..we can only do what Apple allows and lemme tell ya they are strict strict strict…Sorry guys…When apple gives the green light you will have all you want..until then don’t blame it on AT&T…

I can’t wait until the exclusivity deal expires next year, then I and probably many others will tell AT&T to fuck themselves. Maybe then we can get a good iPhone with a good company that won’t try to screw us over constantly for two years.

Payback is a bitch and I can’t wait until their business significantly levels off next year.

    Greedy bastards
