The reason why AT&T won’t support MMS with the iPhone until “late Summer”, tethering info!

We were just told the real reason why AT&T won’t be supporting MMS on the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G S at launch, and you’re going to laugh… Technically it will work right away our ninja tells us. The are no extra plans or higher fees we’ve just learned (the unlimited $20 package covers unlimited SMS and MMS), and the reason it’s not good to go right away is because AT&T has to manually remove all the “Opt Out MMS codes” on each account. Basically, if we were to summarize this, and we’re going out a little bit of a limb, remove the Opt Out MMS code, and MMS will work with the final OS 3.0 build right away. Who wants to try it with the GM 3.0 build just released?

We’ve also just heard that tethering will be 100% locked out at launch, but AT&T’s in the process of putting together a $70/mo unlimited data and tethering plan. SMS and MMS will not be included in that plan, we’re told.

Any idea why it is not supported on all other networks? I believe less than half the global operators supported MMS for some lame reason.

Come on AT&T. I’ve stuck up for these losers for too long. Enough is enough. If their that worried about it why don’t they just have the customers that want the service call and make the change to the account themselves?

THIS IS TRUE WHEN YOU ACTIVATE ANY IPHONE as of currently it adds a “feature called MMS block” but a late summer release to delete all those codes on iphones………..CRAZY and not needed……

I couldn’t be more disappointed. How can the flagship carrier of the iPhone, not support all of its flagship phone’s features? Absolutely pathetic. Someone officially has a case of the Mondays. thanks, dicks…

So, I’m going to go out on a limb and say they needed these opt-out codes because all older iPhones are incapable of receiving MMS?

    @emag

Possibly. Maybe someone who knows AT&T’s system can chime in, but it would appear to be correct. That there is a code to tell them to send the message as the retardedly stupid web page link where you have to log in.

Lol, another example of why AT&T sucks. Always looking for some way to screw their customers over and make them pay more.

Hopefully I’ll unlock this iPhone with no problems.

when i first read that there would be NO MMS support i was highly UPSET!

but i work for att and if the issue above is true then that is just a ‘minor’ issue! that should be able to be fixed pretty quickly maybe even manually during activation!?

    ATT RSC says:

Wrong! actually it was just stupidity by att execs. They didnt need to include a block code cause the phone software didnt even allow the connection. Why they did it idk, but i hope one ATT exec gets fired today for it. Plus now Customer support lines will be flooded with calls!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO

Oh yeah, almost forgot- next year, when the exclusivity deal runs out AT&T will be fucked because this is the only phone that is getting them new business. Sure the Bold is good, but every major US carrier offers at least one decent blackberry.

would be wrong even on the most back end of systems, doesnt actually work like that per say. it would be more like removing the block code and adding a whats called pay per use sub code. the sub code of courser wouldnt be actually a mms pay per use system. but yet would tier up with any message package ATT has. I.E. unlimited txt. I guess it does pay me to be a Specialized Market expert with ATT. LOL BGR contact me if u need any help.

    At&t says:

I’m a RSC i can confirm that when you activate an iphone there is a mms opt out code. So its not just an easy switch of a button to fix. The system we use doesnt give us the ability to remove that code unless they add in a new code for us to “add” manually or a new messaging plan for the iphones. They will have to do numerous system sweeps to correct the issue for all existing iphone customers. I’m sure moving fwd all new activations could have it mms ready from the get go. But from a customer service stand point they would want to take care of existing iphone users then roll out fresh from there for everyone buying new ones in order to “try” and keep everyone happy

actually as far as I have ever! EVER! seen even recently any changes with things like that known to customers as “features” would have to be manually unless my company is secretly working on a computer to do it thats why we have to wait till ” a mid summers night dream” ;)
