Next-gen iPhone video chat gets pictured?
Two new images have emerged which purportedly show off the front facing camera of the upcoming next-gen iPhone. One simply shows the camera in action presumably taking a self portrait while the other is demoing a video chat. Real or fake? More importantly, and considering pretty much no one has cared about mobile video conferencing over the past few years, is anyone looking forward to this feature? Hit the jump for larger shots.

Seems like a nice feature but problem is that who really has a phone that can do this? Basically you could only talk to other iPhone users or, im assuming, talk to to people online over webcam. Like I said, seems like a cool feature but its that not that big of a deal.

I don’t know if anyone has noticed this yet but in the picture of the guy holding the phone taking a picture of himself his arms don’t match up. He is holding the phone with his left hand but the phones screen shows him holding it with his right hand.

Judging from the blurry images i’m gonna guess it was taken with an iphone =) why oh why doesn’t apple step it up? forget front facing and focus on a better regular cam so we can actually take some decent pictures without standing statue still and shooting deathly in-animate objects in perfect world lighting.. And yes i have an iphone so i’m not hating..

AT&T has said that video conferencing needed more uplink bandwith, and now that they’ve upgraded HSDPA to HSPA, they have that bandwith. It is possible for them to make this compatible with other phones

seriously? people are still hung up on the location of the green LED? the first one is an iphone, the second is an ipod touch. thats why they are in different places
The pic with the offset LED and cell phone in the view finder is clearly an ipod touch, can you guys not see the bezel and the smaller home button??
Actually quite a number of the 3G rumors were true. I remember this time last year when photos of the phone leaked, everyone was saying that they were boring, lame, a black plastic finish is totally un-Apple… and thats exactly what came out.
Fake or not – I would love this feature to stay in contact with my kids while there at home.plus we could skype with out-of-state family.

First and foremost I own a PRE, that’s y I called your dumb ass out talking shit about a phone you DONT fucking OWN (and yes I said it again you dont own the phone). The phone officially went on sale yesterday and was only available in stores, so you saying that you ordered the thing over the phone is 1000% pure bull shit . Your dumb ass is the only bitch in the world that actually coughed up $450 for the phone since it cost only $199 at best buy, and $299 at sprint before a MIR. Is the phone perfect hell no, no phone in the world is. For a first generation phone, the phone is fucking fantastic, if you owned one you would’ve known that BITCH… Having multiple apps open at once, switching back and forth with no freaking issues, camera pics quality is GREAT, smooth ass OS, beautiful graphic, great web browsing, connecting to a wifi spot is so easy and simple.

The question is not whether the next generation of the iPhone will have video conferencing, but whether it will have a front-mounted camera. It all boils down to cost versus need for the feature. Video conferencing is the simplest thing in the world to add–all the APIs are there (in OS 3.0) and Apple (or someone else) can write software to use it to transmit and receive video feeds for conferencing.
But there’s no doubt that even if video conferencing were present, AT&T would not allow this through 3G. They do not allow skype calls after all and they officially explained that they need to ensure the bandwidth is not consumed by streaming data leaving little for voice (technically correct assertion given how UMTS/W-CDMA works and their current network capacity).

good advice to go try it out. . but I had a different experience with the PRE. Bought one and found the OS to be refreshing and very smooth. only complaint on the PRE is the keyboard, other than that the PRE is innovative and capitalized on a lot of things the iPhone didnt.
We’re about 24hrs away from answering all these questions what’s real & what’s fake. Im excited to see if it’s gonna be worth it for me to upgrade from 3g iPhone. I played with the Pre in the Sprint store yesterday & it’s a nice phone. It’s brings alot of freshness with the UI. The multitask is awesome. Only drawback for me was the small kyboard. Apple will have to come with it or many will be jumping on the Pre.

I’d hate to be a Nokia exec on Monday. They must be quivering in fear that Since 2005, all their S60 phones (currently 40% of the global market) have been infringing on this patented 2009 Apple invention.
The right one is real but the left one isnt. In the left one why would you be able to only record video from the front one without being able to change it to the back one. Also the green dot isnt centered so its probably fake.
i have never had a need for video conferencing. if i did i would not trust it to my cellphone. i would think that if you had a need for it you would have a stand alone one with a better connection and better everything.
