Sprint: Pre on Verizon in six months? Nope.
The back and forth continues. Following Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam’s comment that the Pre would be hitting VZW shelves “over the next six months or so”, Sprint issued a brief official statement confirming that its Pre exclusivity runs through the end of 2009, at least. While specifics of the exclusivity deal remain a mystery for the time being, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse has just elaborated on the situation a bit. According to Cnet, Hesse stated the following at a press event with regard to McAdam’s Pre comment:
They need to check their facts. That just is not the case. Both Palm and Sprint have agreed not to discuss the length of the exclusivity deal. But I can tell you it’s not six months.
So, Verizon customers, it looks like you have a bit more waiting than anticipated before you can get your webOS on — at least where the Pre is concerned.

Cheese and Rice who gives a flying monkey. It will come when it comes.
I know several people dropping their overpriced VZW service to get a Pre. Simply everything is too good to pass on
ur a d douche and ur mom hates u
Ur dad hates u 2
I’m a go to Walmart, pick up a tin o’Skoal, a box of beef jerky, somma Pampers for the lil’ ones, and one of ‘em iphones for $99…
Sprint doesn’t “suck” as much as people say it does.
I have Sprint, and I’m usually good on signal. Sometimes I lose it, but what cell phone carrier has a perfect network? My dad has Verizon, which many claim to be the best. He loses signal and pays hundreds more a year for service. I like Sprint.
They have a bigger selection of cool phones.
And you can’t beat the price.
Oh, and people are forgetting…Sprint vs. A T&T. Sprint is much better.
Hesse is about as truthful as Sprints salespeople. OK Jan 1 2010.
If I can interrupt the dookey slinging for a second, does the Pre have a message indicator LED for missed calls or messages? I’ve look at a couple of the reviews and swear I can’t find an answer.
Your assistance is appreciated.
why does it matter really to us who gets the phone really they both could get it but i know im sticking to sprint and that is my choice
The Pre is ugly, and the keyboard doesn’t look to roomey. Bring on something else. I could care less if we get the Pre, let me rephrase, I could care less when we get it in 2010. The OS looks nice though.
I want to see some Android phones

Sprint is still in business?

lol @ jon, not for long
Lmao@nerdherder
I love it how everyone hates on sprint. Each and every person loves their own provider. I have had sprint for 10 years and I have 0 service problems. And I love it how you act like verizon is good lolol. Keep paying those over-priced prices on crappy devices. Verizon doesn’t allow sprint to do anything so please stop acting like you know something. Everyone loves their IPhones but hates on the Pre because they can’t get one. Hi HATERS!!
@ sam
How’s the lack of 3G you idiot? If you knew anything all cdma phones have 3G and no wifi. You’re a idiot.
Where are bbkernel, realitycheque, Sonya and JJ, noticed that JJ’s post were deleted but none of them have a comment now
assuming the PRE is exclusive through 2009, that means the earliest VZW could get it would be the first of Jan ‘10. That is the first day of a long period of negotiations to get the phone, not to mention development to get all the features on the phone and what not. VZW lucky to get PRE by June ‘10.
Sprint has terricle service, HERE. My friends have sprint and they admit they get dropped calls all the time. Everyone can only speak on the area. So when pepole say Sprint sucks, thats because it does in their area. I like the Iphone, I have only a few complaints. I also think the Pre is nice. I would get either because of a few reasons. If the Iphone came to Verizon and I could put insurance on it and copy paste, send mms and record a video without a program I’d defintely but it. The Pre’s keyboard would keep me from getting it when it comes to Verizon.
And for the record Verizon IS the best. They have the best service, and thats why I have them. You pay for what you get.
Edit: I wouldn’t get either because of a few reasons. And buy it not but it. Correction.
What area are you in and devices are your friends using? If you never have it for yourself any comparisons don’t really compare. Maybe about this time next year a neutered version that’ll cost more monthly
@vzw how come the omnia has wifi and 3G and its a CDMA phone
This story will not die, look at the frevor this phone is causing

They clarified they’ll be getting a device like the Pre and it’s cousin, leaving out any reference about a date. Most likely they do some vzw branding like they used to do with HTC’s, neutering and gutting, but not in January
well as a rep for sprint there will not any PRE-sentation or any site of the PRE hitting the V at all. and that was spoken directly from the g*ds mouth. the announcement from verizon was ploy to keep verizon subscriber from leaving the network…duh! it sounded like a good idea but as you can see sprint will not fail to surprise the market when it comes to cell phones.
Verizon will have to settle for like the Pre and the Palm cousin. I see a little Pre envy
Upscaled Pre II Jan 1 on V. That is a fact. Sprint has not said it is not the case and neither has Palm.
POalm can’t stay with a third rate and dying carrier for long
Pure and simple. I just cancelled a contract with Verizon and moved to Sprint for the Pre. Not the iPhone. The Pre. I was a loyal Verizon customer but you know what? They keep screwing up and keep relying on their “network” but it’s not enough.
They customize their phones and ruin them. I had to flash a new ROM to my HTC Touch just to make it work. Verizon ruined that phone so bad and now the Touch Pro and Diamond.
You think I want their genius engineers giving me some sort of butchered version of the Palm Pre?
HELL NO. The GPS probably won’t work, costing you an extra $10/mo. and the phone will be slow.
No, I’ll take the non screwed up version of the Pre please. I don’t know who Verizon thinks they are, but they better stop with that ruining of phones. They’re a service provider, not a phone manufacturer, not a software company. Oh and not graphic artists either, the gradients on the HTC Touch cube were absolute JUNK. They actually let it go out the door like that. I’d be so embarrassed.
So maybe Sprint doesn’t have as much coverage…but it’s fast and works where I am. So that’s all I care about. Aside from the fact that for $99/mo. unlimited everything… LOL screw Verizon and the horse they rode in on.
