Sprint: Pre on Verizon in six months? Nope.
The back and forth continues. Following Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam’s comment that the Pre would be hitting VZW shelves “over the next six months or so”, Sprint issued a brief official statement confirming that its Pre exclusivity runs through the end of 2009, at least. While specifics of the exclusivity deal remain a mystery for the time being, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse has just elaborated on the situation a bit. According to Cnet, Hesse stated the following at a press event with regard to McAdam’s Pre comment:
They need to check their facts. That just is not the case. Both Palm and Sprint have agreed not to discuss the length of the exclusivity deal. But I can tell you it’s not six months.
So, Verizon customers, it looks like you have a bit more waiting than anticipated before you can get your webOS on — at least where the Pre is concerned.

Will Verizon have the Pre in 6-7 months? Maybe not. Will Verizon have a WebOS device in 6-7 months? Maybe?
@ Breon
PUHLEASE. If Sprint was so great why have they CONSISTENTLY lost 1+ million customers per quarter when VZW AND ATT have added 1+ million consistently?
And Hesse IS a proven idiot, go check your facts. Palm THEMSELVES said the exclusive was until the end of 2009. How many idiots does it take to figure out their story?
@ grrr
Lmfao at the Tuh…Tuh…Tuh…TOUR fill in the blank! Lol you sir…crack me up
sprint sucks! Only place it works is in citys or along some highways…you break down inroute someplace or something happens your S.O.L. to make a call… Sprint can keep there Push to talk and there Pre… I will stick to AT&T
This makes a lot of sense. It takes Verizon roughly 6 months to cripple (I.e add on VZnav, extract wifi chips, plaster their logo/name on all avaliable space of the phone).

@kenny817 wait til you see what i got ready for the grand finally (when verizon announces a release date)!!!
Its likely till January, so both are correct.
Verizon – we will get it in 2010
Sprint – we have it through 2009
Umm… so January 6th is not only 6 months from the date of launch but also INTO 2010.
READ BETWEEN THE LINES AND DO THE MATH.
I am sure the exclusivity is just the Pre and not whatever hardware that Verizon gets
Hopefully it is better constructed than the Pre which is flimsy and has a crap keyboard (Blackberry perfected this a long time ago, so why Palm can’t get it right is a mystery).
Also hoping Verizon doesn’t hamstring the thing like they do every other phone they get.
What has two thumbs and is looking forward to a Pre on Sprint? THIS GUY
Failure to use proper English when trying to call someone an idiot is sad
Who the hell wants Verizon… the most overpriced network in America!! The most crippled device ever.
The slowest 3g in America etc…
i have absolutely no sympathy for verizon or att customers, they are the ones with the most exclusivity on phones, it sucks when someone else does it back to you on something you want huh?
Sure as hell would not switch to sorry ass Sprint just for a phone. Guess, we will just have to wait!!
I know vzw will eventually get the Pre but before they do they will be pawning off thier EOS as “device like” Pre. I want to see what they take off though, but wiht them planning on Java based smartphone ther might be hope
Anyone who pays more for Verizon service is a sucker.
I don’t get all the hate for Sprint?? I was snowboarding talking on the hill and my friends iPhone and his gfs BB was a great brick while I gave directions to our mountain.
I just don’t get what all the hub bub is about this phone!
I really wish we had never gotten into this business of exclusivity contracts. I think palm would have been better off if they could have launched both CDMA and GSM versions of the pre on at least 3 carriers.
I guess some people dont think that Sprint Could Extend its exclusivity.
Maybe to shut people up and squash hopes…he should have said…”Through 2009 and Well into 2010″
Where are all those who jumped all over Informed and others in the “Vzw get the Pre and Storm 2″ article, absent and quiet, that crow doesn’t tast so good
@ sam.
Wow! How did you figure that out?
@ Breon
Im a fool?? LOL, you just proved you obviously have no brain. Sprint is the leader of the four major carriers?? Wow, youre a complete idiot with a knack for being an idiot, lol. If there is one thing Ive learned about Sprint users its that they will believe anything and will stop at nothing to prove how low class their carrier really is. Probably cant afford the credit deposit needed to switch a real service provider.
Again I must remind all Sprint users that the reason you get good service at a discounted price is becaus Verizon lets you do so. Without the roaming agreement Sprint has with Verizon, you would just be on another regional carrier. Just remember that one day Verizon wont renew its roaming agreement and you will look like a royal ass. Breon = loser.
To all Blackberry Storm users. How’s the Wifi on you Blackberry Storm?
I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if it was an exclusive agreement through the end of the year with renewals triggered on continued sales quotas. That gives Palm an out if sales start to slow, but allows Sprint the opportunity to pull off some kind of miracle to retain them.
@Don Louie Cantone
Regardless they will try to spin it to their satisfaction, already there are a few knuckle-heads trying to do that. Sprint and Palm spent over a year working on the Palm Pre, the idea of Verizon just strolling on in without breaking a sweat is stupid. So Sprint does all the work and Verizon gets a piece of the reward? NOT!!! As I said before, it does not make sense to bring the Pre to a carrier that has a competing flagship device.
