iPhone Video to launch Monday after WWDC announcement?

In what would truly be a direct and devastating assault on Palm and it’s upcoming Pre handset, Gear Live is reporting the new iPhone Video may launch as soon as this coming Monday following a WWDC announcement. Though this is hardly confirmed for the time being, Gear Live has proven reliable on several occasions in the past. According to the site, the iPhone Video will be available in three sizes — 8GB, 16GB and 32GB — with most of the rumored goodies we’ve been hearing about lately. The iPhone Video will initially be available in limited supply from Apple locations while a second, smaller model will be released at a later point in time. The smaller 4GB model will reportedly not be sold in Apple Stores. Again, a Monday release is just hearsay for the time being but with all of the heat Palm has attracted with the Pre, we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple fast-tracked the launch in an attempt to deal Palm and Sprint a swift death blow right out of the gate.

Why would it be “devastating” to Palm if Apple releases on Monday. Unless they’ve magically created a CDMA version…??

Since Pre’s are only available on Sprint to the existing 79 Sprint customers and the 14 who might join, what does the iPhone have to do with any of that? The only thing that’s killing Palm is Palm. They chose an exclusivity deal with a carrier that lost like four million customers last year.

Oh and the unconfirmed Hype about the iPhone refresh is just that. The”upgrade” will be minimal and disappointing just like last time.

If you consider an iphone with a faster cpu, better camera, videoconferencing, more memory, and more flash ram a disappointing upgrade, go buy a Pre.

Palm will need at least 3 – 6 months debugging webOS, optimizing it, and releasing a native SDK.

By version 2, Pre should be a really compelling upgrade – if Palm is still in business.

iPhone video won’t do anything to hurt the Pre, but an iPhone WITH a physical keyboard would. I don’t expect that to happen next week.

Tomorrow’s announcements by Apple will only be a direct and devastating assault on Palm if the iphone demonstrates its ability to reinvent the game a third time instead of making marginal improvements to an OS that WebOS has just leapfrogged. Otherwise it’ll be a stunning indictment that the rules of the game are changing yet again, and not in Apple’s favor this time. Many of you are speculating on the Palm Pre based on what you’ve read. When you’ve had a chance to see a group of dedicated iphone users experience the Pre and then talk about how it blows doors on the current iphone, after using both in their hands, that’s another story than reading about it on a blog. I welcome the Apple announcement tomorrow because in a lot of ways, unless it is revolutionary, more people will now be asking, is that truly your best Apple?
