Facebook for BlackBerry 1.6 goes live at 6pm
BlackBerry users who are hooked on Facebook will be pleased to know that Facebook for BlackBerry 1.6 will be available for download as of 6pm Pacific tonight. In addition to some minor tweaks, a few major enhancements and additions have been made:
- Status updates and highlights on the home page – you can now view your friends’ most recent status updates right on the home page. Highlights like photo uploads and wall posts are just a click away and you can comment on a photo, poke a friend, etc right from the home page.
- Wall access from within Facebook for BlackBerry – with one click on your friend’s profile picture from the home page, you can access their wall without having to go to the mobile site.
- Photo viewing in a simple, easy-to-use slideshow format – check out your friends’ latest photo albums with improved photo viewing, and view albums in a simple and easy-to-use slideshow format. Just scroll back and forth through the thumbnails along the bottom to display the larger picture in the center of the screen.
- Facebook for BlackBerry 1.6 will also support three new languages:
- Thai
- Indonesian
- European Portuguese
As always, Facebook for BlackBerry can be downloaded from www.blackberry.com/facebook on your device or from your desktop. Let’s just hope we don’t need an emergency fix three days from now.

For all those sayoing,”no icon”. That is apparently happening with OS 4.6.x.xxx . – have bold and 4.6 and there was no icon. I reboot, went back downlaoded and reinstalled and it worked! Try that
I download it on my Bold, no problem.
Worked fine for about 10 minutes then 2 random reboots since.
People having the no icon problem, before you start the download, check the change permissions box and set all permissions to allow, Then click on , I went through 6 downloads before I tried that and now I have the icon!
I really like the photo section of the app. Nice and slick!
Got it and downloaded it well with me I still cannot upload pics still! Still checking it out.

By far the best version of facebook for blackberry to date. Much needed update over 1.5,its practically a new application. It works so much better now that I can view everything from the app and not have to go to the mobile web. The highlights feature is great, photo viewing is great, and being able to see a friends entire profile right from the app makes me want to use the app more…good job RIM, we are on the right path…awesome update
Works well. But I do not have to option to check “connect with Blackberry Calendaer application”.. The ckeck box is light grey and it does not let me check it… NO Calendar Sync for me

I tried to download it 4-5 times, rebooted all the times and still nothing
I am having the same problem with 1.6. I can go into options and the check boxes are greyed out next to calendar and contacts, but I can check the others. Any ideas?
i still can’t get 1.6
Where is the change permissions checkbox? I don’t see one. What are you using to download? browser or app manager? I’ve tried both with no success.

Hey! Did you ever get “no icon” problem solved? I am going through the same thing and can’t seem to get it to work!
I had 1.5 working on my Curve 8320 just fine, upgraded to 1.6 yesterday… and now I keep getting the message ” Could not connect because data service is not available. Please try again later. if this continues, contact your service provider for support”. Is there a fix? Can I go back to 1.5 for now?
photos no longer work in my profile, but i can see others… even when set to everyone can see
i have upgraded my curve to os 5.0, suddenly facebook 1.6 and browser do not work any more, can any one help me pls.
