Facebook for BlackBerry 1.6 goes live at 6pm

BlackBerry users who are hooked on Facebook will be pleased to know that Facebook for BlackBerry 1.6 will be available for download as of 6pm Pacific tonight. In addition to some minor tweaks, a few major enhancements and additions have been made:
- Status updates and highlights on the home page – you can now view your friends’ most recent status updates right on the home page. Highlights like photo uploads and wall posts are just a click away and you can comment on a photo, poke a friend, etc right from the home page.
- Wall access from within Facebook for BlackBerry – with one click on your friend’s profile picture from the home page, you can access their wall without having to go to the mobile site.
- Photo viewing in a simple, easy-to-use slideshow format – check out your friends’ latest photo albums with improved photo viewing, and view albums in a simple and easy-to-use slideshow format. Just scroll back and forth through the thumbnails along the bottom to display the larger picture in the center of the screen.
- Facebook for BlackBerry 1.6 will also support three new languages:
- Thai
- Indonesian
- European Portuguese
As always, Facebook for BlackBerry can be downloaded from www.blackberry.com/facebook on your device or from your desktop. Let’s just hope we don’t need an emergency fix three days from now.
UPDATE: The new build will be available at 6pm Pacific, not Eastern as originally reported.

Oh Sure and Crackberry’s next podcast will cut the inane chatter by 50%. It’s not going to happen!
buT i’m nOt a blackberry UseR… yet
am i the only one who has a problem viewing the text on this app unless you scroll over it with the trackball?
I have to say that since 1.5 took over my bb 8310’s calendar and wreaked havoc, needing a full wipe, I think I’ll pass.
Hope they let us “Beta” 5.0 OS users get access to Facebook again
@Michael Bettitol
Is this some sort of a sick joke? All BlackBerry Facebook users know that RIM never makes it to any announced dates when it comes to their applications. But, considering the source, I will take this with a grain of salt.
LOL, I hope they don’t add Facebook chat…..I just bought beejive, so I’m gonna hate.
Had the same thing happen when I first installed the update, but they made and update after that which fixed the issue. but in order to keep the from happening go into options>advanced options>default services and ensure your calendar and messaging are both set to your BlackBerry email addy.
I feel you on that one!! I was trying to hold out until they added the feature but Beejive is an awesome product. I had to delete the option to have Facebook sync items onto my calendar too because it took forever to switch days in the calender app.
Same here and for some reason it doubles the entries? Well hope its an mprovement.
Blackberry Facebook 1.6 now on App World.
But appears not to work with Curve 8900 OS5
@champaigon: I had the same problem. It has to do with the theme you’re using.
@Michael_Bettiol: Please tell me you know the difference between PST and PDT ? We’ve already “Sprung forward” to Daylight Savings time, thus we use PDT.
It’s really good to sort thru the FACTS before announcing a release time and date.
@Pete M. Actually, RIM’s PR firm sent out the wrong time zone, twice, but thanks for stopping by.
is it there yet?
tuh… tuh… tuh… TOUR!?!
Where the hell is it.
pacific time…2.5 hours away still
cant check ur inbox? app still fails
1.6 failing with me…on 8900 using both OS5 and 4.6.1

Got it!
It downloaded but now I can’t launch it anywhere. No Icon for it. Tmo 8900…sucks
1.6 is very well done. It feels like a completely different application… much nicer with really fast scrolling and smooth movements. You can do everything you want without going to the website…. I still want chat though …
Got it!
