AT&T’s HTC Touch Pro2 has many names, one FCC approval

Call it the HTC Rhodium, call it the HTC Fortress, call it the HTC Touch Pro2 or whatever else you like — the bottom line is the AT&T version of this sexy Windows Mobile handset has just received a green flag from the FCC and we want it now. Proving that big really is beautiful, the Pro2 is probably one of the most attractive Windows Mobile phone that has ever been built in every sense of the word. The giant 3.6-inch sliding/pivoting touchscreen display, the spacious QWERTY keypad, the TouchFLO 3D UI… It’s all good. Now that big momma has the green light from the FCC and presuming internal testing it on schedule, it shouldn’t be long before this puppy graces AT&T shelves across the country. Yum.

Word on the street is it will come with 6.1 but have an upgrade to 6.5.

While some people don’t like wm its not Microsoft’s fault the carrier add a crap load of bloatware to the OS before they ship the phone.

Head over to xda-developers and load a clean ROM for this bad boy and it will be snappy for sure.

I can’t wait for this to come out and the first thing I’ll be doing is flashing a clean version of 6.5 and see what this baby can do.

    Dear BGR:
I’m sure somebody is already all over this, but could you just go ahead and please re-send the memo about how comments are supposed to make some kind of meaningful contribution to the topic of discussion, and that writing things like “first” is not only a waste of space –not to mention everyone’s time and patience– but is also the author’s unambiguous proclamation to the world that he is a complete and vapid idiot with too much time on his hands and absolutely nothing of substance to contribute. Yyyeah, that would be grreat. Thanks!

Why is every one trying to copy the iphone….? If manufactures want to beat Apples market then come up some thing original. I do like the fact some phones are coming with 8MP and above cameras which is awesome. Ill still stick with my iphone due to its versatility and ability to remote control the world.

No tethering = not a smartphone.

~2 behind the productivity feature curve = not a smartphone.

An over abudance of games and farting apps in the app store = not a smartphone.

    Sorry, you lose. :-(

Don’t get me wrong, the iPhone’s a cool personal device, and great for entertainment, but it has yet to pull its weight for business use.

The hate for win mo is really not funny. If you don’t like it, save your comments to yourself. You add as much to the topic as the ‘first’ retards. Grow up.

The Win-Mo hate from Iphone twerps is something,
They’ve yet to master doing more then one thing at once.

Imo, it does not look at all like a iphone, did Apple, add a slider qwerty an make their phone usable yet?

The common denominator amongst iphone users is, their commonly shared ,lowered ability to do any more then a single thing at a time.

Sigh, it must be tough on them, post win-mo hate post’s, drool over themselves. post crap, drool, wipe up.. its gotta be, challenging.

So anything without tethering is not a smartphone? Wow you have the weirdest definition of what one is. I did a search of the definition of what a smartphone is, and there are many descriptions. But YOURS is the only one that focuses on tethering. Every description on every site seems to be centered around a smartphone being a phone with PC-like functionality including applications. Tethering seems to be part of YOUR personal description. And … you are a loser. iPhone is a smartphone and has many business applications. The push email with full sync of FOLDERS rules my Curve. The push sync of contacts and calendaring make it better than BIS or what is available on WM. The fact I can drag office documents to my mobileme drive (M:) and have it instantly accessible on my phone from quickoffice files makes it a very viable business option. I don’t need my phone or card with me. I want to take a spreadsheet or word document … I just drag them to drive M: and access when I’m out.

The only similarity between between the TP2 and the IPhone is the large touch-screen. Does that make every mobile touch-screen device an IPhone wannabe, or does that make the IPhone a palm pilot wannabe? IPhone users, get over yourselves…

I actually considered trading in my rock solid (believe it) TYTN for an iPhone… just cuz the iPhone looked like a helluva lot more fun. That was until I tried typing out an email (like smart phone users typically do)… at which point it became at lot LESS fun. IMO (and thats all it is, so nobody panic), if a device is to be considered a smart/productivity phone, there needs to be qwerty keyboard on it.

If Apple were to create a “qwerty” version of the iPhone, I’d reconsider, but right now I’d take the TP2 hands down over anything else.

    iPhone Guy –

Windows Mobile includes mobile versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook making the documents actually EDITABLE by their native app on the go, which is something the iPhone does NOT do in my experience. It also has high performance Remote Desktop (not cheesy VNC).

Also, the iPhone integration with Exchange is terrible. Our company Execs use iPhones and none of them will edit appointments in their Exchange calendars any more for fear of what will happen based on past bad experiences. Major problems with this. Everyone with Windows Mobile works great.

This looks like a great phone and I can’t wait to get it.

I sync my winMo phone with custom / clean rom with my exchance server 2007 and it works perfectly. NATIVE folders and everything. Maybe you should do some research about how well things DO work with winmobile instead of how bad it works if you don’t know how to use it.

    kthxbahi

PS. waiting for this phone, looks great and the keyboard looks much easier to type on then the touch pro

i have the Tilt and i have said that if apple can come out with an iphone with qwerty then i would get it but this seems to be the sexiest fastest most versatile phone on the market and i have been pestering my cousin who works at the ATT store to get me the low down on this phone.

Can you send a ringtone via bluetooth?

Can you send pics, vids, word files, spred sheets, any other docs via bluetooth?

sure you can E-mail them but i dont have and internet plan (which sucks and is a whole different story) and bluetooth is great for sending anything.

as far as i know the iphone can only connect to headsets and computers via bluetooth.

WM has the same look feel and comparability as an actual computer in your pocket.
