Microsoft Bing search engine goes live
Microsoft’s new search engine Bing is now live for users to test drive. Though labeled a “preview”, the search site is fully functional and all live.com search requests are being re-directed to Bing. Using Bing is not nearly as bad as saying its name. The interface is clean, search options are easily accessible and the search results appear on point. Video search gets a nice improvement as well — place your mouse cursor over a video search result and Bing will play back the video in thumbnail mode within the search results page. Just a word of caution about those videos. Don’t turn the safe search option off at work as you may get an unintended eyeful that is very much nsfw. In the end, Bing is pretty and seemingly works well but will this new contender have the power to take even a small bite out of Google’s domination? Only time and an $80 million ad campaign will tell.

Not bad, it won’t stop me from using google but i got to say it’s like 1000x better than Live Search. Finally Microsoft seems to be going somewhere.
the results I’ve been getting looked almost like a carbon cpy of google.

Well, it looks like Bing Cashback will replace Live Search Cashback, so I’m happy.

I assume that Bing will support all browsers. The 3D function does not work on Safari. It also says that the 2D function is not supported on Safari. Can’t have a search engine that does not support all browsers.
I am so impressed by the persistence and commitment that Microsoft has shown when it comes to the search innovation need.
I binged and it worked like a magic. outstanding response from bing.com in terms of speed,search accuracy and all those great feature.

Very nice. I’m gonna try this out for a while instead of google. Microsoft finally seems to trying a bit harder with all their products now that they have some competition like apple, google, nintendo/sony, etc.
Um, the results for Boy Genius Report show “AT” instead of “AT&T”. Guess Microsoft forgot to encode the “&”. Smooth.
Wow it actually works very well, much better than Live, seems like good competition to Google. Also, a nice feature i notice is there is a toolbar on the left that displays related searches and more specific versions of your search, like i searched verizon, and it listed the basic “images”, “videos” etc, but then also had search specific link to “phones”, “batteries” etc which was nice.
Also, it does display & symbols, someone above me said it didn’t

Bing.com redirects to Live.com on mobile browsers. Gee, can’t a supposed mobile tech company launch their mobile page at the same time they launch the desktop version?
The name reminds me of that Crazy Frog.

I just searched for “Live.com is total crap” and found as many results as I expected. Good job!
meh…… not impressed. Google shouldn’t sweat it.
The UI is not a clean as Google’s and it has this dumb picture cluttering up the screen.
It seeesm to work well enough but I’ll be sticking with Google for a while.
The 3D stuff works well in IE8 under Windows 7 RC so who cares about other browsers.
the presence of hot air balloons on the main page tells me that maybe ms doesn’t have anything else to offer… like those “useless” states haha.
I’m not going to lie, but I am impressed. I’ll be trying this is as an alternative to google for a little while.
Ok…I never requested the site, asked for it to be installed or accepted any dialog that indicated that my search site was being changed. My searches just magically stopped going to Google and started going to “Bing” today. I wouldn’t have even known or cared that it existed except that it usurped my search preferences on me. Am I the only one that has an issue with this?
