Fido’s 2009 roadmap leaked; $99 4GB iPhone 3G?

Okay, so one of our Fido ninjas hit us up with some exclusive snaps of what is reportedly the entire roadmap for the rest of 2009. We’re very far away from being able to confirm this information — it actually made us pop about 50 antacid tablets — but we’re going to do our jobs as best we can and report the goods. So here we go…

The most notable slide has to do with a 4GB iPhone 3G. While there is a huge disclaimer that the image isn’t the device itself, the slide depicts a 4GB iPhone model that will run for $99 and come with quad-band EDGE, tri-band HSDPA, a 2 megapixel shooter and, believe it or not, iChat video calling (oh hi, front-facing camera). You might recall all of that talk of a $99 iPhone at Walmart that we brought you a while ago — it looks like the timing was a bit off but it may actually happen. Moving on to the other handsets, we have the BlackBerry Curve 8320 for $50, Nokia E71 for $50 and Nokia E55 for $25, Sony Ericsson Z780i for $75 and a bunch of low-end goodness at great prices.

So, what do you think? Is this real, or is it like that total BS Rogers roadmap we saw at Christmas? Hit the jump for the rest of the slides and sound off in the comments.

    If they offer video calling via iChat, on a 3G phone, you can bet they’ll ALSO offer regular 3G video calling (ie: via the telco’s 3G video calling service withOUT using iChat)

    Given that that’s not mentioned, I doubt the slides entirely.

    4GB should be free with 2 year contract, and 32GB $299 with 2 year contract.

    if apple raises prices i hope the pre survives for 2 more years to come out with a real iphone killer. otherwise MS seems to finally coming out with good ideas

    I kid you not. Every deaf and hard of hearing person in America will buy this solely for the video conferencing feature to see each other signing. Do you all know that there are an estimated 32 million people in America with hearing loss. This equals mega bucks for Apple and AT

    here is my Guess and i have the feeling most likely thats how the prices gonna be.

    4GB == $99

    8GB == $199(new model)

    8GB == $150(previews Model)

    16GB == $270

    32GB == $329

    I have a strong feeling the prices are going to be very close to that chart ;)

    Doesn’t sound right. Why trade the customer down? There’s no price resistance, nobody can come close to repicating the user experience – they would be much better off making a cdma and they would sell an additional 5mm per year on verizon alone. Keep the price where it is and keep adding value.

    iPhone & Pre
    Different markets. Next Gen Pre might compete with better hardware, but for now its all about usability and the iPhone, as good as it is in several areas, is a mix mash of garbage when it comes to interoperability with other companies.

    The iPhone is made to work with there stuff and only there stuff. Thats how Apple rolls. They ALLOW others to use THEIR stuff when it suits them and only within their RULES.

    A 4gb iPhone just fills another gap. When the new companies in Canada come online at the end of the year, you will see those 3 yr contracts disappear and the real competition will begin as everyone scrambles to compete.

    I fully expect 2010 to be a massively revamped iPhone UI that is more tightly integrated like the Pre while the Pre will get the hardware of the iPhone+. Both will get better plans and faster networks in Canada. Read as fair plans with max 2 yr contracts.

    By the end of 2010, it wouldn’t surprise me to consider either an iPhone or Pre as excellent choices and the Symbian OS phones as the last resort. BlackBerry will still be lost and putting out deadend phone revisions and screwing up on updates but still have business market for now.

    Windows will be trying to gain ground and implementing everything it sees in the iPhone and Pre that they were successful with as they will be the odd man out. Heck, they could even buy Palm, although I’d rather they merged with RIM.

    What’s with the Pre hate? Only a blind Apple fanboy would deny that the Pre’s webOS is pretty interesting.

    There’s definitely more than enough room for everyone.

    Ok,Ok…I am loving this! I hope more companies bring out better phones and plans! This way Apple is kept on their toes! The iPhone is great phone but it could be a whole lot better!!! They are playing it smart but a lot of companies are going to be trying to give them a run for their money! Thank GOD!!! Apple needs the competition to keep them honest and leading the market in smart phones! This reminds me of Honda and how they would do as little as possible to sell their cars. (Because they knew they had a great product and everyone was buying them!) Until Jetta started throwing everything you could want into a cars at a great price! All of a sudden Honda followed suite! I think Apple hasn’t had enough competition to keep them on their toes! I am sure that Blackberry will work on catching up!I still plan on sticking with the iPhone for now! I just pray that Verizon gets them soon! AT&T has really been getting bad! I Started with Cingular and left them for AT&T… and I was much happier! Then they merged and it has been all down hill! (I know what I am talking about…I have been with them 2000… I want to say.) Pray that they step it up as well!

    I will ditch my iPhone 8GB 3G for the Android-phone (DSTL1, hopefully.) There are so many, many small annoyances about the iPhone, that I started hating it. Even though it has tons of great stuff. Lacking folders in Photo, lacking ability to lock parts of the phone, all functions are based within one program only, etc. etc. etc…

    Come August, and I will give away my iPhone and get a real phone… With a real OS, Android.

    Andriod is far from being prime time. Have fun being stuck with every thing google.

    @FAIL!!!!

    I’ll agree that webOS does look interesting. But will it get the same attention and development as the iPhone has? Only time will tell. But I would take it over Andriod and I’ve at least used Andriod. lol
