Third generation iPhone goes for a spin in Hong Kong?
Here’s the scenario: Two guys hit the streets of Hong Kong at 3AM in their sports car and snapped a bunch of pics of the yet-to-be-announced third generation iPhone. Sure it sounds crazy, but crazier things have certainly happened. The shots of the next generation iPhone purportedly show off the auto-focus feature of the camera, shown above (note the blue box), which can apparently be fine-tuned by touching the object of interest on the screen. Also shown is the compass application, the new battery meter with percentage, the option to copy items and the ability to send an MMS. There are no actual pictures of the phone and everything is a bit blurry which, according to the poster, was a requirement for him to be able to get his hands on this yet-to-be-released handset. Hmm. Is this a bit of trickery or are these blurrycam shots really real? You be the judge — sound off below with your critiques/comments and hit the jump for more shots.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

How the hell did they get their greasy paws on a phone which have not been released nor talked about?
I call shenanigans on this. looks very fake to me…
I hope they are! It’s nice to see some stuff finally surfacing about the new iPhone. I would start to worry about June 6th Pre fans…..2 days later the hype and trash talking will be all but over. June 8th WWDC 09….So long Pre LOL

What are you guy’s ten?? Why would you want any business or product to fail. You fanboy’s are just that…. BOY’S. The Pre pushes Apple to be better, Apple pushes Windows mobile to be better. We need them all to succeed to make better products.. Oh yeah….. btw, GROW UP.
Wow a compass, autofocus, mms and video recording. They think thats gonna make people upgrade. It looks like palm pre it is for me. From the looks of it thats no oled screen.

@ JC I would like to tell you
PALM PRE
FAILS…..harder than GM
hmm… i think apple needs to step up. if they let this year pass without anything new surfacing, not including the little updates to their product lines, then they might just be gearing up to be the year’s biggest let down. i mean, come on, what are you doing with nearly $30 billion? i say this because their keynotes haven’t been hitting the spot lately. surely they can tell?
hoo rah
I don’t want to see the Pre fail but I do get tired of all fanboy posts that’s Pre is the iPhone killer and already crowned it KING before it’s even released.
Didn’t we already go through this before with Sprint and the Instinct? Then VZW and the Storm? Just cross you fingers and hope that Palm will give you Sprint guys a great phone that will give you some of the greatness of the iPhone WITHOUT touting it as yet another iPhone killer.

@ richie
Since when did you developed a taste for the i- phone? The storm 2, Tour are heading our way! Lol
I’m bout to go and buy a iphone. Pre’s keyboard too small for my fingers (yes I have tested). Will they do the same upgrade thing they did when the iphone 3G came out? I need a phone asap so I can’t really wait.
IF apple isn’t suing anyone, then they are probably fake.
@ joeTour
LOl idk Joe, wats up
3.2mp camera and some more ram/rom are pretty much the only things the new iPhone could offer me. I don’t mms anyway. is there seriously the best apple can do? I can’t wait to get me a job so I can cancel with AT
Dude, really you guys are interested in an Iphone–with MMS & cut and paste wow–i’ll be in line for a pre–
*continuation of my previous comment*
I can’t wait to get me a job so I can cancel with AT&T, go to t-mobile and pick up a touch pro2
iPhones are so last year and this comming from a high school kid who’s gonna be a junior in september
Look folks, nothing, I mean nothing on this planet will take down the iPhone…not even the Pre. Why? Because nothing is quite like an iPhone, but everyone else is trying to be better than the iPhone. That tells you the story right there. If you have dozens of products that are trying to out-do one other, then the product being duplicated/replicated is the one to have. Often imitated, never duplicated….iPhone.
@ joe the plumber
exactly who listens to high school kids that dont have jobs
@ummmmm
I stated my opinion. and by the there are a LOT of high school kids with no jobs that get apple products. my demographic is one that shouldn’t be pissed off.

for all the people who think this is a kirf, probably not
hong kong is a city if richies, all wealthy ex pat investment bankers
anyway point my friend from hong kong had the BOLD 2 months before it came out.
not surprisingly the new iphone 3g is already been floating around
King Kong played ping pong with his ding dong in Hong Kong.
I had an iphone, I thought it sucked as a phone and was mediocre as a gaming device… I completely missed what all the hype was about. Needless to say I switched to the sony xperia, that phones on another level compared to the iphone, too bad it cost me 7 bills.
First off, I highly doubt the pictures are real. Apple is known, even in my industry (Game Design), for keeping things under wraps really tightly. Most of your Game companies didn’t even get the iPhone dev kit before the rest of the “public” could get it.
Second the iPhone, by no means is a great device, it has taken them a couple of years to give basic functionality that even the cheapest of entry phones have. However, I’m not completely knocking it. It was great in the regards that it has allowed hardware manufacturers to step up the game, as before it was released, carriers decided what would be released. Now carriers can’t say no to a device because they need to compete.
Also, need I remind you, that the iPhone is still only a small portion of the phones out there in the hands of people. There are more BlackBerry’s and more Windows Mobile devices out in the hands of people than there are iPhones. Not to mention the Nokia phones running Symbian.
Oh and as a side note, if Apple doesn’t add on the A2DP (stereo bluetooth) protocol onto the bluetooth stack in a soon to come update, I will be sorely disappointed in Apple. For them to tout the device as a music phone (on top of other things, mind you) and not include that protocol they have crippled the device.
young c why are you such a dick about gm are you from america or are you just one of those political people who is retarted and doesnt want gm to succeed for their benifit
