If you were really as active as you say you are I’m surprised you don’t use a pair of Bluetooth headphones. I’ve had a set of Cardo S-2’s for over a year and I love them. Lose the cord.

You obviously are not very active then. When I was with tmobile I had a Dash that I had to return for service twice because the USB came loose and I couldn’t charge. I work out a lot and while you are constantly moving and listening to headsets the movement loosens the port eventually. Exact same with my Tilt on AT&T. The mini USB for headsets should not be used if you are going to be doing lots of movement like exercise. It is a very poor decision to use that dual purpose port. I have never had issues with my curve or iPhone and those go through my heavy workout routine. Because if this I will NEVER buy another device without a dedicated jack for headphones.

I am not getting, what does everybody have with their stupid 3.5 mm head jack. Why does it matter if you use the one HTC gives you or you have a 3.5 mm head jack. I had HTC devices for years now and I always have the HTC jack, no problem. There is adapters as well that translate everything you need from HTC to 3.5. What is the big deal.

I see other complaints are real, but this one seems to just be not understandable. Sorry, get over it and just make it work …

I am eager to get my hands on this phone (HTC Touch Diamond 2)

I also appreciate the fact that it’s supposed to come with a removable SD card – the main reason I want the new phone – besides the new TF3D and the excellent screen.

But how in the world will I ever be able to live without a Dpad? It will take a bit of getting used to.

I have one of these and there are some issues, hopefully 6.5 will sort. If you install TOMTOM 7 it will kill the BlueTooth

SMSs come in with reciept time 1 hour ahead

Sycing with mor than one PC. (home & work) sucks, but this is a 6.1 issue.

Other than that best phone HTC have produced so far, good looks, responsive, interface works well.

Biased Much?
You say Touch Pro 2 and some Nokias won’t even be able to render the games Pre will be able to once things are said and done. And you know this how? When I say applications will be limited on Pre I say this because their entire development language is interpreted (CSS, HTML, Javascript) and not compiled bytecode. Anyone who has done any development will tell you that an ASCII file that has to be interpreted to run will never be as efficient as a compiled application. Do research on your own about the difference between interpreted languages vs compiled ones or ask anyone who knows the difference.

You are going purely on speculation and marketing hype, I am basing my information on known fact … and you name yourseld “biased much?” LOL.

I am tired of hearing the WM haters. Try 6.5…. It is a much improved OS. Titanium is a joy to use with all menues and sub-menues finger friendly, and the kinetic scrolling in contacts, email, call log are all great. The new home/today screen is the weakest, but thats what touch-flow is for. Just try 6.5, you might be suprised.

A prerelease floating on some other sites had Verizon releasing August 24 – so sounds like by October they should def be available. The TP2 is thicker because of the keyboard. Unless u do heavy texting, Diamond 2 should be fine. Hope the reliability issues are resolved bu the time these are released. fall release means they’ll come with WM 6.5. Hopefully they’re listening and will add the 3.5 jack. Seems like Verizon & HTC learned from the error in not expediting Diamond to all carriers. Much simpler modification for CDMA since these are now second generation. So i believe both HTC and Verizon want to get these out ASAP to blunt iPhone3 inroads into the customer base. Now if Apple still has game they’ll notch it all up shortly. Hope LG & Samsung get the message and bring out WM competitors as well. Some of us need WM due to corporate requirements.

Looks like a great phone in terms of design and features. The lack of 3.5mm is disappointing mostly because it would be so easy for HTC to include. As much as people contend that 3.5mm is not necessary I have never heard anyone complain about it being a waste of space when it is present. Not a dealbreaker but still disappointing.

In response to comments: Bluetooth stereo right now is far from ideal – it will decrease your phone’s battery life and you have to worry about charging your headphones now in addition to your phone. Also the headphones themselves are more bulky because they incorporate a battery and the bluetooth module. They are more expensive and you have fewer options.

The dongle option sucks because in my experience the mini usb port is not as durable as a headphone port and starts to loosen up after a few months use. Also, if it breaks, charging the battery and syncing are more difficult. The dongle will also protrude increasing risk of breakage.

As far as OS goes, WM and iphone are tops in terms of number of apps. I still like WM phones because the OS is more customizable, you have more hardware options, and you can get many apps for free. Blackberry OS is too rigid for my tastes and the apps too expensive. Android and WebOS are both as yet unrealized potential, but I remain hopeful.

Well. This is the HTC Phone I’ve been waiting for. Big screen, perfect keyboard. Most HTC phone have excellent builds. But there’s two things missing: a flash, and a 3.5mm jack. Can’t HTC get it through there heads that we want these. Also HTC phones have horrible cameras. It’s so close to the perfect phone but yet so far away. Who needs the fancy smanzy conference call speakers and mike on the back?

Also, Pre has a capacitive screen, so the touch screen will be a lot more responsive than the TP2 when using your fingers. You won’t be able to use a sylus with the pre though because it is capacitive.

The capacitive screens feel better to the finger IMHO because they are more rigid glass instead of flexible material. You can’t have a resistive screen made of glass.

It depends on what you want from a smartphone. If you are all about the apps, then WM is probably better because Pre apps are very simple web apps based on HTML, CSS and Javascript with no access to hardware features like video acceleration. Basically they are glorified web pages running in cards that have access to some soft phone features through the MOJO API. So if you plan on more advanced applications and want to play games, go with the TP2 over Pre. But … PRE has some kick butt features built in.

I got to play with them both and they are great phones. I had the original Diamond and loved it, the TP2 is took thick of a phone for me personally, but the screen size is amazing.

No GSM version has a 3.5MM jack but HTC now has a fantastic USB to 3.5MM adapter where you can plug any headphones into it and use it as a microphone at the same time, basically what Nokia has been doing, even with a 3.5 jack.

Still, ill wait to go back to WinMo when 7 is released. I liked 6.5 but its not an upgrade except for the change of the start button where there is no drop down menu and it takes you to all the programs.

For now, ill stick with Nokia. Im sure that Both of these phones will do very well. I will never go back to a 2.8″ screen, nothing under 3 or 3.2″.

I am happy with the Nokia 5800 and N97.
