New BlackBerry Storm OS coming to Verizon on May 31st

So let it be written, so let it be done. Rejoice, Verizon Storm owners, because the OS update you’ve been literally dying for has finally arrived. We just received official word from our pals at VZW that a new Storm OS, 4.7.0.148, will be released on Sunday, May 31st at 3pm. According to Verizon, this is a “general maintenance release that improves the overall user experience.” Proactive users can hit blackberry.com/update at that point in time to get the ball rolling. For users with a less urgent desire to upgrade their OSes, a rolling OTA upgrade (Options> Advanced Options > Wireless Updates) will begin at 10pm on the same day. Who’s excited?

Why wait until Sunday? A leaked copy of this OS is already available on the Internet and it’s not hard to find. The leaked copy is identical to what Verizon will be releasing.

    @ Richie:

Nope it is .148. Numbers .203 and .181 that are in the file name are relase and platform numbers (or something like that).

Finally I stopped using my storm because of the constant memory leaks. Hopefully this will help it a bit.

I hate the storm. One of the worst phones I have ever owned. Why does Verizon punish us with crappy phones and a great network

It’s about effin’ time! I have not wanted to do anything with the “wild” OSs out there because I don’t have time to waste on screwing around. I see this as a precursor to the Storm 2 release! Blah!

Just in time to keep one or two people from ditching it for a Palm Pre or iPhone. I bet they waited this long on purpose, since they have no new hero phone until later in the year.

    I’m happy about this,
but BB and Verizon need to
give anyone who wants one, a
full refund. This is the most
    clunky, frustrating, sh@t phones
on the market today. Nice try BB
    and Vzn, but I’ll prob
still switch to the iPhone. Too bad
too. Could’ve really been a cool
thing but they F’d it up. Bad.

Wow, people have actually died waiting for an OS update?

Wow, love how you poke fun at something no one really cares about with a brutal pic of the tyrannical police state that exists in our day in age. Thanks for trivializing human existence with a joke about some bunk phones new OS update. Not cool and I don’t think I’m coming back after this one.

People who HATE on the Storm are usually one of two types:
1 – Complete morons, no wait, stupid morons that probably still have VCR’s flashing 12:00. If you can’t use the Storm as a smart phone, you’re too dumb.

2 – iPhone fanboys who just can’t resist a chance to bash any phone that threatens their Jesus phone. Even the current official .75 version works decently and does things the iPhone can’t. Okay, maybe the .75 isn’t as “snappy” as the iPhone OS, but it’s better than iPhone 1.0 for most things.

Hey iPhone fanboys…how’s that MMS, cut and paste, and replaceable battery working for you? Oh yeah, that’s right, you’re probably too busy playing with your latest fart application instead of doing real work with your phone.

Honestly, I’ve never met a person who owns a Storm and hates it. I did meet a couple of people who returned theirs within the 30 days because they just didn’t like the keyboard. Well, not every cell phone keyboard works for everyone. I find touching glass as a keyboard without a physical feedback not for me. A phone that vibrates for keyboard feedback drives me crazy too. “To each is own” and not a reason to HATE.

If you own a Storm and hate it, just shut-up and sell it. I’ve been running .148 since it’s leaked out and it runs great. Many of the prior leaked versions ran well too, but may have had a bug or two that prevented general release.

If you have a Storm…go get .148 and enjoy it even more. It won’t be long and the 5.0 OS versions will start to leak out that improve responsiveness even further and add some new functionality.

    @BB_Storm4me,

you call out people for being fanboys, yet you don’t display yours? Calling people iPhone fanboys or idiots for not liking a BB Storm, then later saying to each their own, is that not contradiction? No the iPhone doesn’t have a replaceable battery, but it will have copy/paste and MMS in the new update.

A little condescending don’t you think? I’m pretty much up

To use it. You are a smart and gutsy fella. Give yourself a
