Comcast to match Cablevision, offer 100Mbps service

While Verizon maintains its FiOS service is way too cool to be bothered with things like speed upgrades, Comcast is apparently just about ready to step up to the plate. According to an Inquirer report from this morning, Comcast is prepping an Optimum Ultra competitor that could launch any day now. Comcast’s offering will allegedly provide users with a 100Mbps downlink on par with Cablevision’s 101Mbps Ultra speed, and the uplink could be as fast as 40Mbps. Cablevision’s Optimum Ultra service only provides upload speeds up to 15Mbps. Pricing for Comcast’s new offering is still unknown; it’s current portfolio tops out at 50Mbps/20Mbps for $190 per month. As such, it would be very surprising if its upgraded service competes with Optimum Ultra’s $100 price tag.

    I hate comcast. I have them for TV. My bill is fixing to go up 41.00 a month. I am going to switch to dish-network. I have DSL through Embarq and love it.

    I’d be nice if cablevision upped my upload. 30/10 or 30/15 is better than 30/5.

    @Austin

    Had Comcast for years and switched to DishNetowrk last year and love it! One box will run two tvs instead of Comcast hitting you up for $7 per box which is per TV if you want the guide. The DVR is also much better. A lot more storage and two tvs can access it. They are coming out with a new Slingbox/DVR w/1TB drive/HD which I really want when ever it comes out.

    I just wish Comcast would focus on fixing their craptastic hardware devices infrastructure and THEN worry about upgrading to speeds nobody really wants to pay for at their pricing points in this economy. Standardize the DVR infrastruture (pick the MOTO’s or the SA’s and stick with oe across all markets) and get a REAL TIVO-HD service rolled to ALL markets!!
