Rogers to soft-launch the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a June 9th

That’s right, kids; it’s time for some more Rogers exclusives from your pals at BGR. We’ve just heard from one of our trusty ninjas and according to an internal Rogers announcement, the Sony Xperia X1a will be soft-launching nation-wide on June 9th. Before you get all excited however, you need to know that only stores with consistently high data sales will be taking part in the soft-launch. In other words, think big cities unless you happen to live in a small town that’s filled with mobile web addicts. As for the full retail launch, Rogers is still eying June 30th with an introductory promotional 3-year price of $249.99 (to settle at $299.99) and a MSRP between $649 and $749. Do we like?

Thanks, G!

Wow, I never saw that happening, especially with the impending release of the Touch Pro 2. But long live the X1, I guess that pretty much guarantees more ROM updates for the rest of us with X1s. And I guess it also means that Roger’s customers won’t feel forced into going for a huge phone (i.e. Touch Pro 2) if they want a WGGA winmo slider.

This is a phone I’ve been wanted to get on an actual carrier, but bought it unlocked and a bold. Have to say they did a great job on the build and i will definitely get the next addition of this phone if it comes on a US carrier

X1 was a sexy ass phone. Sadly, I didnt see nothing happening for this phone and ended up returning it and getting my $900.00 dlls back.
    I hope your right Chris.

Its sad that Sony pumped this phone with so much potential and yet they dropped the ball on this phone.

bring em’ out! bring em’ out!

I hope they make this available for T-Mo, but I highly doubt that they would.

Especially with the limited amount of Sony Ericsson phones on the carrier.

I’ve already been using and selling the X1. Its a massive disappointment. Windows mobile sucks on it and the hardwra eis kinda crap too

I hope you’re kidding! Magenta’s got a bunch of phones upcoming this fall as i’m sure you know. this ‘has-been’ phone that i waited for almost a year to come out was a bigger disappointment than that Indiana Jones movie last year! I personally like sony ericsson phones ( i own a k550i that i’ve had for 18+ mos.) but this one’s expiration date has expired!

Yeah I tried two different Xperia X1s at the Sony Ericsson Open last April in Miami–did not like either one of them. Really slow and not that easy to use. The panel UI looked cool, but it didn’t feel nor run very well. And while the actual build quality seem nice, it didn’t seem very ergonomic. Then again, I don’t like any of the HTC slide-out keyboards, but that may be that I’m Blackberry biased.

@tom: I’m pretty happy to be a Canadian, but the wireless companies here have certainly done nothing to help my patriotism. Fucking price-gouging cocksuckers.

Hey Rogers, how about launching a data plan that doesn’t shove the mighty cock of zombie Ted Rogers up my ass every month?

Ravnos, seriously, thank you for making me laugh my ass off before bed. Do you have a blog or something? You’re hilarious.

As usual the North American phone companies do what they do best. Make a big hoopla about phones that the rest of the world had a year ago and offer their customers a smaller selection of phones than most developing countries. Those phone companies really give it to their customers and I don’t mean customer service.
One day the customers will remember……
So glad I live in China now where your average phone store has a few hundred models to choose from.

    Expat Canadian.

Wonder if they extend their 6gb data promo currently on for the HTC Dream & Magic Android phones to this phone. If they did, then I’d definately buy one.
