Nokia’s Ovi Store goes live across the globe

Throughout the night our inboxes had been lighting up like the New York skyline with reports that Nokia’s Ovi Store went live across the globe just as Nokia promised during MWC. Just a few hours ago, Nokia confirmed the news with a press release. For those of you who don’t know what the Ovi Store is all about, it’s the destination for S40 and S60 users to hit if they’re looking to load up their devices up with apps, games, videos, podcasts, widgets, pics and more in an online store front that integrates MOSH, Download! and WidSets. All you need is a valid credit card to pay for your goods unless you live in Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Spain or the United Kingdom where your tab will be called in by your carrier. Carrier billing will be available in the US as well later this year via AT&T. Excited much?

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

    1) So there is an S40 version as well? Can anyone explain to me why S40 is not considered a smart phone OS? It has full email, maps with navigation, a browser, HSDPA, CIF video conferencing, the ability to develop apps for and install them. As far as I can tell, all that is missing is multitasking.

    2) Took a look at OVI earlier today and installed it on my E51. Not too many apps yet, but it is promising.

Right now it looks just like the sadness that was Download! with a nicer interface. Sigh. Still no internet radio for S60 5th, fail.

Yea, the more I play with this, the more I wonder WTF?

Nokia, listen up! There are many app stores that you can use as a thought starter, so
    - Where the hell are decent screenshots?
    - Where the hell are the reviews?
    - Where are the decent free apps?
    - Why do I now have to PAY for apps that were FREE yesterday on the internet?

It looks like some dude at Nokia woke up 24h ago, and said, Frack! We’re supposed to launch Ovi tomorrow. And then proceeded to quickly write the app in under a day. For the company that sells nearly 40% of the world’s phones, I expected a heck of a lot more!
