12.1 megapixel Sony Ericsson Kokura gets pictured; a CDMA Idou?
Looking very, very much like the now-infamous Idou Sony Ericsson announced for 2H, the same source that let us all in on the VZW/Pro2 party has floated a live shot of an upcoming SE phone that obviously grabs our attention. By way of Captain Blurrycam, d474rpr.com (”data ripper”? we’re a little rusty) brings us the “Kokura” — which could possibly be a CDMA variant of Sony Ericsson’s Idou. Really?! Bear with us here: All of the handsets in d474rpr’s post are presumably in the hands of the same tester as they were all seemingly taken in the same kitchen. Verizon’s upcoming Touch Pro2, Verizon’s upcoming BlackBerry Tour, Alltel’s upcoming HTC Cedar… And the Kokura. S60 5th Edition on Verizon Wireless? We’ll just have to wait and see.

First.. and nice device.. Big Red could use some sony love
sony ericsson and verizon sounds good together. too bad i wont be wating for it.
Its aboout time. Nokia came around and i’ve been waiting for SE to see the light too.
Sony Ericsson is bleeding left and right. Now they have to try different things, cdma is one of them.
Good call. I didn’t really make that connection when I first saw the picture but it makes sense.
That may just be a phone that I wait around VZW for.
Hhhmm, Sprint just partnered up with Ericsson a while ago……Hhhm, lets see what Sprint has for us.
@Cris: Maybe. We saw Sprints road map for most of the year though and there was no mention of anything like this.
Plus the logic of it being a CDMA phone really only works if it is a VZW or Altel (same thing really) phone. The only reason BGR is saying its CDMA is because the other phones on the counter were VZW/Altel phones so it likely that the person taking the pictures tests them or is in some other way involved with the company. If you were going to say that its Sprint you could just as easily say that its really GSM and the phone is headed for T-mobile.
On the other hand if SE has any smarts it would be on Sprint and VZW and T-mobile and AT&T and any regional carrier thats willing to throw a couple of bucks your way. I thought the Idou was going to end up like the Xperia and only be availble unlocked at a high price, which I thought would pretty much be the last nail in the coffin. If this holds true its defiantly a move in the right direction for the company.
Roadmaps get addendums, stuff can get added at anytime they want
True but thats really neither here nor there. I used it as one example of why its probably not Sprint.
The real reason was the follow up. If you’re saying its a sprint phone you might as well say its an AT&T phone.
12 megapixels?
Why would you want to put that many pixels in such a small space? Can you say grainy?
Kokura? The codename for Idou was Kokoro.
@SE123: Really? I had thought that the code name for the Idou was Idou just because they said that wasn’t the name they’d probably launch it with.
Are you saying that it could be just a plain old Idou (GSM flavor) that the person misspelled based on pronunciation or are you saying that is another piece to the puzzle pointing to a CDMA phone since the code name is similar but different?
This phone will rock with some VZW crippling action.
It’s actually Kokoro and it’s just the REAL codename of Idou before they announced it at MWC this year . . . SE will not produce any CDMA any time soon besides some model they design for Japanese CDMA carrier
StevenGlansburg just ruined this thread with a whole lot of BS.
@tande04: We saw AT&T’s roadmap and saw no mention of a new iPhone, but we know its coming, so what’s your point?
It’s not CDMA, it’s LTE… Think about it!
to po.op:
yes what’s the point?
i also think it could be going to verizon b/c earlier this year verizon was saying they would be releasing a phone that was unlike anything ever seen and i’ve never seen a phone with a 12mp camera
