The Rogers handset that came locked in a safe…

We’re not going to lie — BGR definitely has its perks. One of them is that our pals from FedEx drop off a lot of packages at our office doors and today was no exception. Although it’s a Saturday, the FedEx truck just pulled up and handed us one heavy ass box (12lbs of heavy). Once we checked the shipping address and saw that it was from Rogers Wireless, we couldn’t help but tear away at the packaging. Inside we found an envelope containing a key, a compass and safe box labeled “Join the Revolution: 02-06-09″. Hit the jump for a sneak peak of what’s inside.

More to come tomorrow.

Very cool. Definitely got your attention, eh? If I was smart enough to understand setting up a g1 on at/t I certainly would

Man, Canadian mail is slow. They must have shipped that out about 8 months ago!

Definitely cool! I will be selling lots of them i’m sure. I will have to talk to my local HTC rep to see about getting one to use for my dealer line.

I don’t mean to be overly critical, but Canadians do it backwards, that date is June 2nd, not February 6th…But thanks for playing.

At least they spelled “revolution” correctly this time LOL. So did they mail you the key separately or did it come together, nullifying the point of the safe?

Is Rogers planning to sell every year old handset in a safe?

A lot of other countries put the date before the month.

Zoom in on the pic, it says “Day”, “Month”, “Year”.

Yes it is the European format of day/month/year which is far more logical, but really annoying nonetheless.

Hm. It’s the redesigned keys HTC Dream, the one that was launched first by Spain’s Telefonica. Way prettier than G1’s keys, if you ask me.

i agree that the DREAM looks better than the G1, but inside its still the same damn phone. a phone that was released 8 months ago.

Rogers know how to raise interest on their upcoming devices, an area where we recently saw sprint failed.

Yeah, having the key in the same package completely makes no sense. Well, hopefully you get to keep the safe!
I bet the shipping was expensive.

What a waste of shipping $. Just ship the damn phone like you always do. In a plain box.

Cool safe! Is BGR considering giving it away? If so, I’ll give it a good home. The phone’s cool too, I suppose.
