The Sprint document that asks not to sell to IT is not “internal” but sent to all resellers.

It has nothing to do with not enough Pre to go around, although Palm surely blundered with their production schedule, but instead because the Pre is not for IT or enterprise.

Fact: the 849 price was put in place only at best buy to deter people from buying the off contract pre and reselling it for huge profit. The actual no contract price is estimated to be about 549, which will be in place once there isn’t any major shortage of units.

Same thing about the IT centric comment. An internal document says not to sell to companies who would benefit more from a treo pro because there aren’t enough phones to go around at the moment

I don’t see the point of these silly whining attacks on Boy Genius, Bloomberg, or people on this site for Palm’s mistakes on production which Sprint has been complaining about fairly
openly.

Palm diverting to GSM so quickly is also adding to their production shortfalls. The GSM are the same production line and 99% the same components, including the special capacitive screens that is causing problems.

The problem is serious and people blaming anyone but Palm and instead blaiming users here for a real and admitted mess is s(h)illy.

Cedric, I spelled your name right, you do realize Sprint is CDMA so a GSM production thing is pretty much a non-issue and I was on buddy’s side (on there being people w/the phone not him being one of them) til the celebrity quotient and and rabid misspelling came in. Around 6/12 but most likely sooner we wil find out is all I’m saying, apparently you and plenty others don’t like anything about the carrier or manufacturer so why harp on it when you won’t be recommending anyway?

Don Luie, my guess is you and Jerry are one and the same.

You have people saying Jerry is obviously not a beta tester for clear reasons. He is talking about Angelina Jolie as a relevant source.

As far as a serious shortage this long running story comes from Palm Executives, like the VP of Europe who said when asked about GSM prospects there would be a limit of one million in total of all pres produced in 2009.

Then you have Hess saying on three occasions that there were production shortfalls.

There are serious production problems, it is not a secret or a rumor.

In fact it is about the screens. It is all over the trade press. In fact that is wqy EOS is moving early.

“Don” if you want to support a foul mouthed troll go ahead, it speakes volumes about you.

Fact: Palm has had shortage and severe production and quality delays in its last three handsets. It is a fact of Palm’s recent history.
Fact: The shortage and production problem stories all come from Palm and Sprint.

You have no proof of your claim and any person w/this phone will not risk thier spot to prove something to you all. @Jerry, the reference to Marx on Palms screw up Pre shortage was “Marx Brothers”, not Karl.

Every one of us here knows you are not a beta tester. Verizon doesn’t beta test. They network test and use their engineering employees to do so after Rim has done its beta.

By the way, Angelina Jolie, whom you use an an expert witness on the capabilities of the Pre, is clearly a liberal.

We know you don’t work in anything related to tech. You have not one single post with one single fact in any where on BGR.

There is a serious shortage. It is not a rumor or “hateful to Sprint” to note this, as Sprint and Palm are the ones claiming shortage and have been doing so for months.

Jerry isn’t beta testing anything. He bases his understanding of the Pre on Angelin Jolie, who, with absolute certainly was handed the thing, had her phonet taken, was give a couple of quotes to read out and never touched the phone again, is not exaclty a serious example.

There are no “hateful” comments about Sprint in the thread.

Ther eis the posting of a story on a bungle of one of the most important aspects of a product lunch (avialble inventory) ofr a product extremely important to Sprint.

The source of the “hate” comments Jerry is so upset about is Sprint’s Public Relations department who are flacking the inventory problem.

In short Jerry thinks Sprint “hates” Sprint because Sprint is generating storeis about shortages on Pre.

Me Fellow Americans. I dont have to post nonething here any reviews etc…..I will stand my my words that this is a great device and it is a winner. I dont understand how so many of you hate Sprint and use your computers to make points thru the internet that invalid. Angie Jolie loves here and she got weeks ago. Like I said I get many devices from many vendors. I am also a beta tester for one of the blackberry’s for Verizon. And I may just soon have the new iphone. At the moment I am very impress with the pre. And this is a great phone for Palm and Sprint. This will give them the boost that they need. Have a Happy Memorial Day Weekend.

This debacle isn’t a “Palm/Sprint=Fail” it is more like Palm and Sprint haven’t really fixed their problems.

The iPhone is properly derided as the “Jesus phone” in the sense that it drives mindless loyalty, but the Pre is going to be more like the “Bernie Phone” (the name of the guy who claimed to be the messiah the year atfer Jesus died).

Pre looks good, but the hype is over the top, it will be eclipsed by better phones soon enough as everyone on a site like this knows.
LG is going to to wade in and has massive capital. They, Apple and HTC etc will dominate the smart market, and have the money to produce product that will leave the Pre, which does have nice innovations but is no game changer, in the dust. The shortage at launch, when the life cycle of smartphones keeps shortening, and pace of innovation keeps accelerating, is a disaster.

As far as Sprint, they have structural, financial and brand problems that are killing them, and ATT and Verizon at double the size each can crush them with a price war if it looks like Pre will do anything more than give them a few more quarters of life.
