Sprint: Palm Pre shortages are speculation but demand could exceed supply
As the Palm Pre fiiiiiiiiinally nears launch, there has been plenty of talk with regards to supply and demand lately. Is the Pre going to be as popular as everyone thinks? Did production issues prevent Palm from having enough units ready for launch? Are Palm and Sprint shorting deliveries to help ensure a sellout? Here at BGR we’ve gotten some pretty firm intel regarding Best Buy’s stock of Pre handsets at launch, but what about Sprint’s stock? Can we expect similar shortages? The following is an official statement from Sprint:
At Sprint, we’re excited by the response to the Palm Pre, but what’s been posted is pure speculation. Because of the Pre’s popularity, it’s likely that initially we won’t be able to keep up with the demand for the device. If that happens, we will work diligently to ensure that everyone who wants a Pre can get one as soon as possible.
So, it looks like Sprint and Palm are doing their best to meet projected demand but because the device is anticipated to be so desirable, it’s entirely possible — nay, likely — that demand will exceed supply. In that event however, Sprint will do everything in its power to step things up and get units out to everyone who wants one as soon as possible. There you have it folks, straight from the horse’s mouth.

That’s right – we have Sprint saying it’s all speculation but not saying it’s all FALSE speculation!
Somehow, I personally think that pretty much answers the question whether Sprint likes it or not!
dude, the palm pre is in several people’s hand. just because your friend is a manager means jack nothing. most high end employees of palm have been blessed with the pre-Pre. Sprint managers are of no value to get an early shipment

if eloquent folks such as Jerry Marcus here can get Pre’s ahead of time you would think there would be more photos, video, and reviews.
So loose thier jobs so people on this site can talk about how much of a brick the phone is, Palm/Sprint=Fail.

This debacle isn’t a “Palm/Sprint=Fail” it is more like Palm and Sprint haven’t really fixed their problems.
The iPhone is properly derided as the “Jesus phone” in the sense that it drives mindless loyalty, but the Pre is going to be more like the “Bernie Phone” (the name of the guy who claimed to be the messiah the year atfer Jesus died).
Pre looks good, but the hype is over the top, it will be eclipsed by better phones soon enough as everyone on a site like this knows.
LG is going to to wade in and has massive capital. They, Apple and HTC etc will dominate the smart market, and have the money to produce product that will leave the Pre, which does have nice innovations but is no game changer, in the dust. The shortage at launch, when the life cycle of smartphones keeps shortening, and pace of innovation keeps accelerating, is a disaster.
As far as Sprint, they have structural, financial and brand problems that are killing them, and ATT and Verizon at double the size each can crush them with a price war if it looks like Pre will do anything more than give them a few more quarters of life.
We have -by my count- 6 ppl who have this device. Why aren’t you guys/gals posting a little review. ? Just give a service for the readers. Tell us how the browser,works differently then the berry. Etc.
Unless you are phony liars who just love to post stuff. Anything.

Me Fellow Americans. I dont have to post nonething here any reviews etc…..I will stand my my words that this is a great device and it is a winner. I dont understand how so many of you hate Sprint and use your computers to make points thru the internet that invalid. Angie Jolie loves here and she got weeks ago. Like I said I get many devices from many vendors. I am also a beta tester for one of the blackberry’s for Verizon. And I may just soon have the new iphone. At the moment I am very impress with the pre. And this is a great phone for Palm and Sprint. This will give them the boost that they need. Have a Happy Memorial Day Weekend.
i think its great too and i want to get one as soon as my contract is up. i just wish people who had them would make my decision easier by talking about the details consumers care about rather than bickering over what handset is better and which provider sucks

Jerry isn’t beta testing anything. He bases his understanding of the Pre on Angelin Jolie, who, with absolute certainly was handed the thing, had her phonet taken, was give a couple of quotes to read out and never touched the phone again, is not exaclty a serious example.
There are no “hateful” comments about Sprint in the thread.
Ther eis the posting of a story on a bungle of one of the most important aspects of a product lunch (avialble inventory) ofr a product extremely important to Sprint.
The source of the “hate” comments Jerry is so upset about is Sprint’s Public Relations department who are flacking the inventory problem.
In short Jerry thinks Sprint “hates” Sprint because Sprint is generating storeis about shortages on Pre.

Every one of us here knows you are not a beta tester. Verizon doesn’t beta test. They network test and use their engineering employees to do so after Rim has done its beta.
By the way, Angelina Jolie, whom you use an an expert witness on the capabilities of the Pre, is clearly a liberal.

There is a serious shortage. It is not a rumor or “hateful to Sprint” to note this, as Sprint and Palm are the ones claiming shortage and have been doing so for months.
