Best Buy stores only getting 4 Palm Pres for launch day?

“Whoa, whoa, easy there killer.” That’s probably one of the phrases coming out of your mouth at the moment. One of our most-trusty of ninjas just dropped this bomb in our mailbox — it’s going to be rough out there on June 6th, folks. We’ve been told that there are only roughly 4,250 Palm Pres that Best Buy stores will be receiving for launch day on June 6th. Scott Anderson of Best Buy Mobile told us there were around 1,000 Best Buy locations that would be selling the Pre, so this leaves us with around 4 units per store. For launch. Incredible, isn’t it?

If it makes you feel any better, we’ve heard Palm executives have already started sliting their wrists.

Thanks, fishman!

UPDATE: We just got word from a RadioShack ninja that 721 RadioShack stores will carry the Pre on launch day. Our guy guessed each store would get around 2 units each and the stores themselves are limited to high coastal areas like New York, New Jersey, California, Miami, Texas, etc.

Not. Good.

The two Sprint stores I visited (NYC) on Tuesday said they expected 6 and 9 Pres(respectively) on launch day. I dunno why they would get different allotments.

If this is true does it make the “30,000 Pres” rumor treu, too?

    How many Sprint stores? Walmart?

    5-10 each.

    I think we’re gettin’ close to 30,000.

That’s not exactly a jaw-dropping number of devices.

That is just going to be a complete train wreck, this isn’t how to do a launch with so much riding on it for both companies (Palm and Sprint). Also, BGR, the “sliting their wrists.” could have been left off the post.

Classic. What’s the point in even selling them if their only going to carry 4 per store on opening day. Absolutely stupid. If Palm were in better shape, they may be able to play suck games, but considering their current status, their playing with fire with the iPhone announcement and the pending release of the Storm 2 around the corner. Simply amazing.

This whole supply and demand thing that Hesse was talking about is absolutely going to flatten both of them. This announcement coupled with the next iPhone being announced + the storm 2 surfacing + the bb niagra + the HTC magic…the list goes on and on. This is really going to put a dent in Palm and Sprints plans….Not good at all

Yeah, leave it in there. I thought that was hilarious. I literally LOL’ed at my desk and people looked at me. Palm and Sprint cannot afford to screw this up…but it looks like they might.

No phone launch should EVER be handled by Best Buy. Are you kidding me? Those people buying the first phone are getting no kind of support on those phones. Buy it and take it home cuz the Best Buy employees wont know a damn thing!!!!!!!!!!!

That is MORE than enough phones, Sprints service sucks ass. Adding any more than 4 Pres will probably shut the whole network down.

I don’t believe that……… I think this is another reverse marketing scheme put out there by sprint & palm to throw people off & increase the pandomonium surrounding the phones release………..i hope……4 phones per store…come on now….if that’s the case the employees are probably going to nab all of those……damn…
