Verizon Wireless BlackBerry rumor roundup: new Storm OS, Storm 2 coming soon, Pearl Flip in inventory
A few of our Verizon Wireless ninjas came through this morning and hit us with some information about some of the Verizon’s BlackBerry rumors that have been floating around. Here is what we’ve got:
- The BlackBerry Storm has not been forgotten by Verizon. A new version of the 4.7 OS (.148) is indeed undergoing testing right now. It looks as if this version will pass testing and Storm owners will be getting their much needed update soon. If you know where to look of course, you can already snag it.
- The Pearl Flip 8230 has made its appearance in Verizon’s inventory system. The handset is reportedly running OS 4.6.1.160 and both silver and purple versions are being toted around by some lucky Verizon Wireless employees. No exact launch date but the launch is reportedly imminent.
- Last but not least, we got confirmation that the Storm 2 is indeed on the fast track will be launched in the very near future. Our source places the launch in early July, though we highly doubt that will be the case.

I wonder when we will start seeing the “STORM 2″ on that commercial with with the girl touching the screen….hmmmm…thats when I will officially feel bad about owning my STORM 1. . . .

BG, did your ninjas only send in the information, or the picture too? Some people think it might be a shot from RIM’s inventory list, and not Verizon’s.
Could you confirm that this list is without doubt a shot from Verizon’s inventory?

hey bro, i read your post and i wouldn’t be surprised if Verizon decides to delay the Tour just like at&t did with the Bold but in a good way to pull out the Storm 2 to go against the iphone magnet and the Pre to get it revenge of the ailing Storm 1. Probably the Tour will be launched in August/September. Believe me Bro, we all know we talking about Verizon here.

Ditching our beloved Tour, and going with the ‘perfect storm’. I think your right. It won’t be released that soon. Untill the I’ll have to deal with “rebooting” the curve. We shall see

I assure you that is a shot of VZW inventory order system. ACSS if you want the program name. I sent that in so I know. I know the pealr flip is coming soon b/c I have seen several supervisors in my building using them and I confirmed the OS as well. I did not know about the purple. As far as the Tour no one in my building is using one, yet.

If VZW delays the Tour to rush the release of the Storm 2, I’m leaving and taking a dump at corporate’s doorstep.
Tour is a bogus name for the 9630. That name was a red herring for the bloggers to chew on. 9630 is coming out, but it won’t be called Tour.
It’s not too late to return your Storm if you bought it within the thirty day return policy.
I just spoke with a man at Verizon today and he said that the Tour will definitely be released on July 16
