Verizon Wireless BlackBerry rumor roundup: new Storm OS, Storm 2 coming soon, Pearl Flip in inventory

A few of our Verizon Wireless ninjas came through this morning and hit us with some information about some of the Verizon’s BlackBerry rumors that have been floating around. Here is what we’ve got:

  • The BlackBerry Storm has not been forgotten by Verizon. A new version of the 4.7 OS (.148) is indeed undergoing testing right now. It looks as if this version will pass testing and Storm owners will be getting their much needed update soon. If you know where to look of course, you can already snag it.
  • The Pearl Flip 8230 has made its appearance in Verizon’s inventory system. The handset is reportedly running OS 4.6.1.160 and both silver and purple versions are being toted around by some lucky Verizon Wireless employees. No exact launch date but the launch is reportedly imminent.
  • Last but not least, we got confirmation that the Storm 2 is indeed on the fast track will be launched in the very near future. Our source places the launch in early July, though we highly doubt that will be the case.

That’s all for now, folks.

Thanks, anonymous and Fan_of_fanboys!

Unfortunate that there is nothing here to confirm the insiders claim about the Storm2. Since Kelly said “we got confirmation”, how about sharing it?

Joe? Chris? What you say in regards to all this? Did Verizon Purposely delay the OS update to launch near the i phone? Or Pre? There’s a big rumor, going around that this update will be a “huge” update. And now the Storm 2?
Rim, these games are starting to get anyoning. I’m a long time customer, and well you might lose me to Apple if I don’t see a decent OS.

No SIM is a corporate option so employees can’t go overseas on vacation jacking up the company phone bill. Plus, the new Storm 2 won’t run under the same model number.

@NDonline, yes, I just wondered if there is any more info when the 9630 is to be released. If the Tour doesnt come out soon (as in, VERY soon) our department is “upgrading” from palm to the 8830. Meh.

lol cause its RIM and Verizons fault you just bought the Storm.

You should email Waterloo and tell them to sto production of any new units for a period of 36 months after you buying your phone

holy @#!&… where is my Tour?
looks like the storm Two is on the way to create a “clash of the Titans”. head to head belly to belly against the I-phone,
im affraid to even think about the possibility, the unthinkable, ……has the Tour been canned???? or just delayed for another quarter?

    StevenGlansburg says:

Before releasing an updated version of a phone that is only 6 months old, Service providers like Verizon need to either stop selling a phone like the Storm or alert potential buyers of a phone like the Storm when they know that a newer, better model is coming out in the immediate future. That is just shady on their part.

At least T-Mobile and At&t attempt to give a bit of a heads up like the new sidekicks or iphone, respectively.
