Clarissa,

(1) You’ll need a program called Classic from MotionApps (http://www.motionapps.com/classic/) to run your Palm T/X programs. No word on pricing or when it will be available.

(2) If you’re asking if you can use the Pre without Sprint service, no. You won’t get past activation (which is forced when you first turn on the phone). Even if you did, a good amount of the functionality relies on having service.

If you’re asking if you can buy off-contract, but use with an existing Sprint account, maybe. There are rumors that Sprint won’t sell the phones without a new or upgraded contract. There are also rumors that you can buy for full price at Radio Shack. And Best Buy is showing that you can buy without contract, but at a significant premium.

Most likely, it will be possible to buy the phone outright, though. If you do, Sprint should still let you activate and use with your Sprint account, as long as you have a compatible plan (older plans won’t work).

You can talk on the phone and surf the web at the same time on the pre….. plus att sucks where I am located and sprint rocks, so the service just depends on where you are located….

Yes, that’s exactly what I mean. As long as you are approved for service or your eligible for your 22-month upgrade you will be allowed to get the Pre without any Mail-in-rebates.

Yeah last year i sent in my rebate for my touch diamond, and I was expecting 100 dollars, but I ended up getting 250!!!

Hopefully that happens again with the Pre =)

You will be eligible. You may have to pay slightly more, usually around $20, for an upgrade rather than new activation. Best Buy offers the post rebate price out the door with all of their phones and carriers and I’m surprised no one realized it until the Pre release announcement. I wouldn’t go anywhere else to buy a phone if I was planning on getting a “rebate price”.

Stay out of the medicine cabinet, ATT is not getting a Pre, Also, what is so great about the iphone update?… All it does is add features (which should have been on iphone 2G) most other phones have had for years.

The difference is Sprint Kiosk’s are owned by RadioShack and ALL our phone pricing is without mail-in-rebates ( For New lines and upgrades). So coming to a Sprint Kiosk or Radioshack can guarantee you a Pre on launch day because everyone else in America will be going to BestBuy or Sprint Corp.

@dm919, not true, if you buy the phone without a contract and then you can just enter the ESM or whatever other numbers they need to sync your contract with the new phone, just to get the subsidized price you will need perhaps to switch to EP.

I left sprint for ATT because of the iPhone. Don’t get it twisted sprint was great. I had them for 8 years and I live in NJ. Never had a problem with billing, services or any of their phones. This phone does look pretty dope though.

i dont see howso many people can think palm can create the best device out and to mke it worse its on sprint service….even in the highly unlikely event this phone does end up being the sh1t ATT is getting one later this year and the iphone update will be much better….plus i like the ability to talk on the phone andsurf the web at the same time

Question about Best Buy: can they do upgrades, including applying the $150 discount that I have for being a customer for 22 months (or whatever it is)? Can they also handle plan changes, including things like splitting a family plan into 2 new plans? Will I need to have the other phones on my family plan with me?

that phone looks very promising, especially when it comes to smart multitasking and ease of use. the interface is really nice, and it looks to be fast. and a physical keyboard is nice for not cluttering the screen, now the most important thing is to have the app store ready for developers as soon as possible

Games dont have to be written in WebOS.. Palm will actually probably let major developers write deeper in the core with linux.. I think Palm will eventually let everyone or almost everyone in.. Just like apple was forced to.. and thats the only reason WM isnt dead.. and thats the main selling point on android.. So we’ll see..

Um Sprint has great phone line up actually.. Better than VZW.. VZW wins in the dumbphone but not by much.. And Sprint kills in the smartphone, and ptt.. GSM will always have more variety but ATT is filled with a bunch of crappy midrange phones.. And with the most 5mp phones, the new sidekick actually being good, like a million hi end android phones, and some top of the line htc’s tmobile could arguably be ahead of everyone in a few months..

You are misinformed, webOS it the equivalent to a desktop OS. That is the idea Palm wanted, and they have achieved that with webOS. As to gaming, you obviously have no idea what the CPU is in the Pre and what it is capable of. It is much more advanced than the iphones CPU as well as faster. The iphones CPU has a max of 600MHz, it is under clocked to 400MHz due to drain on the battery and memory. The Pre’s processor has a max of 1GHz, it is said it will be under clocked to 800MHz. The Pre’s CPU is capable of DVD quality video and advanced gaming. It also has a unique memory management and power management feature.

Once people get their hands on this phone people will begin to see how it is a major step forward for the smartphone industry. IPhone, Android, BB, etc. will have to play catch-up on in several vital feature areas. Sales will be good as the weeks and months pass. The Pre will spur faster innovation from the other handset makers if they want to remain competitive.

Its a nice phone. Has lots of potential. I would love to have one. But it wont make me switch from Verizon. I love my storm.

My storm has not been plagued like others. But I will wait it out for the Tour or Atlas.

Good job Sprint on scoring this amazing phone. Cant wait to see the reaction from users.
