Storm 2 could drop on Verizon sooner than expected
Could we be saying goodbye to the BlackBerry Storm sooner than expected? BlackBerryOS forum moderator BlackBerryOS , who has a relatively good track record where early info is concerned, claims to have received some intel from a senior-level insider at Verizon. Said intel suggests that Verizon Wireless employees are already undergoing training for the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 2. More importantly, he claims that the Storm 2 could be released as early as this month, and insists it will be available by the end of June at the latest. Wow. Could the Storm 2 be slated to drop even before VZW deals the BlackBerry Tour? The email goes on to cover the presence of Wi-Fi in the Storm 2, though we’ve already confirmed that back in April. So, Verizon customers, if this pans out will you be jumping on the Storm 2 train or can you wait it out for the Tour?
Thanks, Stang68!

I love my Storm. Runs great. If you can’t be arsed to run up BB Desktop manager and update it I don’t feel sorry for you AT ALL. Tons of apps, games and on my BES. It’s a proper tool and deserves none of the bad rap in updated form.
Fear Storm 2. This one is coming out fighting.
im dissapointed that gearlog actually beat you guys with the pics! everyone keeps talkin about the storm2, while still showing the original storm pic. and what makes it even funnier is people commenting ‘it looqks thiner’, ‘the buttons are smaller’ lmao, anyways I for one didn’t buy into hype of the first storm, and I never regreted it. hopefully the storm2 won’t dissapoint like its first gen.

The amazing lack of logic on this thread is astounding. First of all, Verizon still has the 8230 and Tour to release which replace its aging Pearls and Curves. Secondly, they have never released two new Blackberries in one month since it is counter productive. Thirdly, it is more probable that the “Storm 2″ is actually the official software update for the 1st gen models which was slated by internal docs to be sometime in late Q2. Even if the device were miraculously ready for launch right now, Verizon would not do it for the exact reason that everyone is mentioning- a slap in the face to existing owners. There is nothing mechanically defective with the current unit (you can say what you want about how SurePress works as an entry method, but there is nothing physically wrong with it) that would warrant such a quick replacement. Everyone whines about VZW not coming out with a software update and rejecting them but in the same breath lambast them for pushing an unready device out.
@ Capitalist – what makes you think VZ cares about how pissed the people that bought an original storm are going to be? get real. verizon and rim want money and you have it. regardless if you have a storm they know you are going to want a sexier slimmer sleeker one.
as for the unit. i hope they just provide a better software experience and make the phone less the engineer’s phone and more the media/gamer’s phone.
the iphone is like a nice pair of designer jeans. any blackberry is a business suit.
I am writing this from my BlackBerry storm and I would just like to say I love my storm. Suretype is awesome and I love clicking the screen. Of course it doesn’t compare to a physical qwerty keyboard but its perfect for me.
When have you ever seen a GSM device that said activation required?
All of you who think and are saying its a GSM version of the current storm are ducking retards.
Ducking SureType sucks.
@Mike I
So what ur saying is that it took u 9 hours to type 3 sentences. LoL.

if you think the leaked os updates make the phone work fine then you dont use your storm a lot
@ capitalist
Are you suggesting that the storm 2 is not heading to verizon??? You realize that it is laughable at this point in time, I’m sure.
Get over it. Its 3 new berries verizon bound!!!!!!!!! Unless a supernatural power will shove it out if the hands of Verizon training ppl who are readying it as we speak!!!!!!!!!
@TedP,
I sync the Storm to Mac via PocketMac. It works very well. This phone has been great for me thus far. I can’t believe all the problems others report here. It’s like we’re talking about two different phones.
Who cares! The Storm is/was a piece of junk. I don’t blame Verizon for dumping that POS.
storm I isn’t that bad…if you change the os…132 is pretty good. this is the first time vzn has had a hi tech/hi profile phone in a long time…just don’t use their recommended os and you are good.
i agree with bb.. you guys just hopped on the bandwagon too fast to get the newest and coolest product. although i also think its way sleezy of verizon to offer buy one get one free off blackberrys..a month before it releaases all its new toys and releasaes
For those thinking this is real there are plenty of more logical explanations:
BGR is on something,
BGR is trolling in an attempt to get somebody from RIM to let more details slip about the eventual release date of any new storm,
BGR is being trolled in a manner that will drop his future credibility wrt RIM rumours,
The designation storm 2 is simply what they use for their next official software release.
I am also a corporate VZW employee. As of Saturday May 23 2009 we have absoloutley not received any kind of training on any new Storm or otherwise.

All of these supposed releases on this website, Crackberry.com, etc, are all speculation. We have not received any training on any new Blackberry devices period. The usual drill is receiving training around a month ahead of a large release.
Have been waiting for RIM & Verizon to up-grade the Storm, but I guess they won’t do that now with the new “Storm” coming-out but they really should offer the original buyer’s of the “storm” a switch but who know’s what goes on in the mind of a large company, Money,Money, Money.
To tell the truth. I work for VZW and I’ve heard not a whisper about any storm 2. I’ve seen nothing in our normal training areas, and I’ve searched. I have heard that RIM is having a hard time passing a new software release. It keeps failing for some reason in the tests. Not sure whats going on there. So why would they release a storm 2 when they still cant get the storms software to work? It dosn’t make sense. I think this is a line of BS beyond belief.
It’s simply a bad move. If there is going to be a storm 2. It may just be the same old storm with a different version of the BB OS. That would make sense. Wifi is built into the storm and just not turned on per my understanding. So I would suspect maybe and software release would enable the function, and fix the bugs people are having with it. You know. . .some fine tuning.
Verizon employees don’t know anything. The BB storm 2 could come out tomorrow and a CS rep would find out the same day we do. I remember I called about the Omnia a week before it was coming out and asking questions. No one knew anything, they never heard of it. I believe that it is coming out soon. There is truth to all rumors.
Here is an example of what Verizon employees know:
On Apr 21, 2009 @ 6:47 pm, VZWGuy Said:
Verizon Wireless has a lifetime exclusivity on the Storm.
Um no, everyone on this board knows RIM owns the storm. They can sell to whoever they want. And it wouldn’t be with Vodafone if it was a lifetime exclusive phone.
So once again, just stick to boygenius. I find them to be very reliable. My friend is a VZW manager and he can only get the scope when digging just like we do.
By the way the Storm 2 does have click screen. The 4 corners and clickable making it easier to type on.
You just proved how stupid you are, Sonya. Judging a whole company’s employees by the actions of a few. I could make the same kind of comments about some of our customers, believe me.
We knew the original Storm was coming out officially a few months ahead of it’s release, and most of us who delve in to the rumor websites knew it was coming much sooner than that. Since Blackberry is so important to VZW, we always get trainings on the new devices, and we haven’t even received anything official on the flip version of the Pearl. We know that is close because the original Pearl is being phased out, but we still don’t have any kind of official release.
There still has been absoloutely no mention of a Storm 2,3,4, or 5, No mention of “Tour”, “Niagara”, “Odin” or whatever the hell you can think of.
Blackberry Scott
So you just proved my point did you not, you guys haven’t heard anything about the Storm 2 or the Tour, both of which are definitely coming out. I’m not judging the whole company, VZW employees know little when it comes to phones coming out and this is a general statement.
There are exceptions to the rule. We knew a year ahead of time when the Storm was coming out and a few people on the forums knew of the Storm 2 while the Storm 1 was still being talked about. Storm 2 isn’t a rumor, its a real phone thats coming out and the VZW employees on here don’t seem to know anything about it which sucks in my opinion. But its not your fault so don’t take offense.
A quote from the president of our company, as reported by Reuters news agency today…
” As it turns out, Reuters has reported that Lowell McAdam of Verizon stated in a webcast today:
“Over the next six months or so you will see devices like Palm Pre and a second generation Storm,” on the Verizon Wireless network. ”
I nor any of us doubt that a supposed “Storm 2″ prototype exists, but it is foolish and ridiculous to think this phone is coming out any time within the next month.
We as store representatives are there to provide and advocate our service first. We have our hands full in dealing with that to begin with. Websites like this can be a blessing and a curse. People have their hopes up right now for two phones that may or may not be released within the next few months, let alone in the next month.
Since when does Verizon (or any mobile carrier) care about its customers? Do you really think they care that you just bought a Storm last week? Every carrier tries to unload inventory prior to a new device, which is why they are offering so many deals on BB’s. The iPhone does this every year, as do numerous other devices.
