Storm 2 could drop on Verizon sooner than expected
Could we be saying goodbye to the BlackBerry Storm sooner than expected? BlackBerryOS forum moderator BlackBerryOS , who has a relatively good track record where early info is concerned, claims to have received some intel from a senior-level insider at Verizon. Said intel suggests that Verizon Wireless employees are already undergoing training for the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 2. More importantly, he claims that the Storm 2 could be released as early as this month, and insists it will be available by the end of June at the latest. Wow. Could the Storm 2 be slated to drop even before VZW deals the BlackBerry Tour? The email goes on to cover the presence of Wi-Fi in the Storm 2, though we’ve already confirmed that back in April. So, Verizon customers, if this pans out will you be jumping on the Storm 2 train or can you wait it out for the Tour?
Thanks, Stang68!

Cant wait well i just have to wait for it to drop then i will upgrade. i hope RIM will release this thing with a stable O.S. i guess i just have to patiently wait

weird – how were they able to keep this quiet for so long. i’d like to believe this but usually the BG gets the leak info months in advance. i hope you are correct here BG, but it’s just hard to believe.
I’m with you!
I’m all over the storm 2 though and if they help us trade up, that’s very mature and responsible of them. If not, I’ll wait till my upgrade time. I don’t think I could go for a hardware keyboard/small screen after enjoying the large beautiful screen of the storm.
I’ve been blessed with a storm that works as it should. I’ve had absolutely no problems with it, and I’ve been pretty darn abusive. We’re the lucky few apparently
No, you’re just not some increasingly prevalent whining b!tch that can’t figure out how to operate a phone with a slight learning curve. I like my Storm too (.132 OS), but more than welcome an improved device with or without a discount or trade-in.
Here’s what I think it comes down to:
1. RIM doesn’t want the Storm2 release date to get close to the time the VZ iPhone drops next year.
2. They are able to pump these out so soon b/c much of the hardware is probably the same.
Im thinking its more a revision than a new phone. A storm in a slightly thinner housing with wifi. Pretty cool, but for the people that JUST got a storm, this is a dick move by both VZW and RIM.
Now it makes sense that Verizon was offering the Storm with the $199 buy one get one free…
there is no storm 2 launching in june, or anytime this summer…you guys are way too gullible.
It would need to be RIM to do the trade in program, not Verizon.
Verizon better offer some kind of upgrade for us Storm 1 users. that would be a hell of a nerve to make us buy another phone after the first piece of dog cr** anybody think they will?
This is really x-citing. Palm Pre, BlackBerry storm and the Iphone are coming out almost at the same time. This is it people, we’ll be able to know who is really the king of kings
Senate Passes Bill to Restrict Credit-Card Rate Increases and Fees
Honestly, where is it written that a company “has” to wait a full year or season to release an updated version of an existing product? Its the fault of the consumer for buying a first generation anything which has only been tested in labs by R&D people. I am guilty of purchasing the Storm, but I have little or no problems and I consider myself to be a power user.
Hopefully there wont be a sophmore jenks with the Storm 2.
In actuality, Palm Pre is in the hot seat this year since it the freshman product for 09.
The en-v touch 2 from LG is also coming out.
Env touch is not a smart phone, and is just a revamp of the the Voyager 1
Brotha,
There is nothing wrong with buying a 1st generation product and having initial problems. But reputable companies should fix these problems. Promptly.
Apple’s initial iPhones had problems. They fixed them and then put out the 2nd gen phone. BB/Verizon should do the same. And they might… who knows.
Let’s get some memory you can use for apps! An app store for a device that has little room for them makes no sense. What is my sdcard for? and don’t get me started on having to pull the battery…
Scott,
I agree with you!
I mean; who am I to tell people not to buy a gen 1 product? I am just pointing out how much of a risk you take if you do purchase a gen 1 product. Gen 2 of the Storm has to be better or I may begin to question my alligiance to rim.
Rim will address the internal/external memory problem with regard to App World with new devices set to hit the market.
Stakes are high for RIM.
This rumor is untrue.
The storm in the picture is the first gen. The Second gen one does not have separate buttons. They are part of the touchscreen. I don’t think that the 2ndGen one is going to be a clickable screen. Just haptic
I have the first gen Storm. I just hope that Verizon gives us some love and lets us trade in the laggy bastards
I can’t see them removing the world phone part of it. The Storm 1 is the only VZW world phone that actually has GSM broadband speeds, not just Edge. (I am not sure what the Tour will have.)
@Paul L
what do you use to synch it with your Mac?
does the tour have wifi
Is it April 1 again?
And where are all the morons shouting this down because “no way Verizon will release multiple new BB at once”???
Too bad though that Verizon can’t see the forest through the trees. The Storm is a VERY capable device with ANY OS other than the two that Verizon DID approve! Every leaked OS I’ve fiddled with since December has been an improvement over Verizon’s “official” software, they need to stop demanding whatever perfection they seek and at least get SOMETHING better than .75 released!
