Storm 2 could drop on Verizon sooner than expected

Could we be saying goodbye to the BlackBerry Storm sooner than expected? BlackBerryOS forum moderator BlackBerryOS , who has a relatively good track record where early info is concerned, claims to have received some intel from a senior-level insider at Verizon. Said intel suggests that Verizon Wireless employees are already undergoing training for the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 2. More importantly, he claims that the Storm 2 could be released as early as this month, and insists it will be available by the end of June at the latest. Wow. Could the Storm 2 be slated to drop even before VZW deals the BlackBerry Tour? The email goes on to cover the presence of Wi-Fi in the Storm 2, though we’ve already confirmed that back in April. So, Verizon customers, if this pans out will you be jumping on the Storm 2 train or can you wait it out for the Tour?

Thanks, Stang68!

I was an early adopter of the storm and it was a big mistake. Any CEO of a company who says that future products from his company will be released with problems and this is the new norm doesn’t deserve to stay in business. Buggy OS, zero support except for leaked OS’s.. give me a break.

This can’t be right, can it? Would they really p*ss off all of those first gen owners just a few months after purchase? Even Apple waited a whole year before doing that.

This is what I think is happening: This is going to be branded as, wait for it, the STORM! They are not calling it the Storm 2, they are not going to advertise it as a brand new Storm, but as an “improved Storm”…if they advertise it at all. If you look at the pics, the Storm 2 doesnt look much different in the least. Maybe thinner, new touch buttons, and some rubber on the side. Not much at all! The OS is EXACTLY the same from the pictures, it’ll just be 5.0. I think they will sell this for the same price as the Storm now, and let us current Storm owners trade in for $200 even without an upgrade. VZW/RIM know they screwed up and this is their band-aid. A slightly updated Storm…that will almost 100% still have “SurePress” click screen. (That last part is just a guess, but if you look at the screen, it still has the gaps for the depress motion).

What say you to my prediction? Yes? No? Am I crazy? lol This thing IS going to launch sooner than we think…but I am still gonna buy a Tour. Now I just gotta make sure the buyer I have lined up for my current Storm doesnt find out about the Storm 2 lol

No way Verizon would release it that fast. And allow storm 1 owners to trade up? Don’t hold your breath.

Nice. Rush this one to the market too. Because pushing the original Storm out the door worked so well.

Of course, maybe BB didn’t have to do as much development on this one… All they had to do was make the original one work like it should have the first time.

I feel for all you Storm owners, Verizon should do right by you and give you free upgrades to the new Storm or fix your OS.

I wouldn’t turn down an updated Storm if offered, but am I the only one who is not having any problems with the Storm? Everything works well. I have it loaded with music and photos. It syncs well enough with my Mac. E-mail is great. Phone is great. Did I get another phone in disguise?

if it does come out this early, as everyone else said, i really hope they (Verizon/RIM) offer a “convenient” upgrade path for existing storm owners like myself.

apple 1st gen iphone at least had a stable OS by the time they released 2nd gen and still it was a year apart from each other.

WTF – The Strom 1 sucks totally. Verizon & RIM need to get their ass in gear and release the World Tour 9630 especially before they release a phone (Storm 2) that might not suck (keyword MIGHT) when I’m stuck with a Storm 1 and can’t even get a 9630 yet.

This is an interesting turn of events! The Tour can’t come out soon enough as far as I’m concerned, but I’ll probably give the Storm 2 a try. I’ll do the 30 day trial with Verizon before the Tour comes out, but if RIM pulls a fast one and delays the Tour, I’M GOING TO RAISE HELL!!!

Storm owners screwed themselves….all the reviews and videos showed the Storm was bad and laggy. Plus you had 30 days to return it. You guys should’ve waited until a solid OS was released before getting the Storm. You guys paid the price of buying a 1st generation product.

Not going to happen… Atleast this early.. I am a trainer in a corp call center and can tell you no training is going on for this device. We are normally the first ones to find out as we have to teach the stuff..

Your an ass, no one can get them yet.. If you don’t like the Storm, sell it and buy a different phone with the proceeds.
