Microsoft MyPhone Beta available to the public for free

If you’re currently rockin’ a smartphone running Windows Mobile 6 or higher, it’s time to get on the MyPhone wagon. Microsoft’s new OTA backup system is now in open beta and is ripe for the picking. You get 200MB of free storage, which isn’t a whole lot, but it should make do for emails, contacts and calendar events for now. It’s a nice little taste of what a Microsoft Exchange Server will do for you, but nowhere near the same scale of course. Speaking of Exchange, MyPhone will not work if your phone is currently synced with an Exchange server — but then again if you’re using Exchange, you wouldn’t really need it. The price is right and feedback so far is positive so, Windows Mobile users, get going.

It only syncs once a day? If it was push, now that would be like Exchange!!! If it pushes, it is amazing. i am still trying to figure out why people use Blackberry… The phones stink, the OS is mediocre and the cost is high if you want BES!!!! Activesync does all of it for free.

MS should capitalize on the fact it owns the PC, portion of the web, and the corporate worlds.

Integrate it closely with WinMo, beyond its current capabilities (like SharePoint support for corp users). Then tie Windows life, slapping free services such as one mentioned in the article. Neither Google, BlackBerry nor Apple has the same infrastructure – a superior combination of OS and mobile OS, web and corporate. Google is strong on the web (not so much on the just surfing side), but has no desktop or corporate presence. Apple is pure consumer, with no corporate support and no web, BlackBerry has corporate customers, but no web and no PC. Seems like a winning formula for MS, just put some thinking into it and use it.

Andy, yes it also can be synced manually any time you want. I’ve been using it for a while now and it’s great. Just got a new phone 2 weeks ago and all my data was transferred seamlessly.

And now the fruits of Dangers labors find a new audience! Lol

This is the service “lower” sidekick users have been enjoying for several years now.

If it works exactly the same it does push updating everytime you do something new that it keeps up with. Its a great feature
