Face it guys, you’re fanboys of one phone or another. Many of you are Apple haters, and nothing the company does will change your hardened minds. For any device, I would only say to beware the hype. Until the Pre is fully tested and vetted in the marketplace, it’s all hot air and sexy specs. If its quality proves to be less than expected, or its user experience disappoints (either from OS/software design or even customer service), expect a backlash.

Truth be told, Palm and Sprint likely have but one shot at getting this right. If the marketplace of non-fanboys turn their back on the Pre, you’ll have a useless toy. Remember, you’re not just buying a product. You’re getting in bed with a company, in this case two.

OH … and lets not forget Newton. One of the first wildly available computer to fit in your pocket that sparked the whole PDA craze. Now, these smartphones are a convenient marriage of PDA and phone.
Apple and lack of innovation don’t go hand in hand. And no, that is not my opinion. That is fact. They have innovated and change the course of computing since the release of the APPLE I in 1976, and the first consumer printer in 1979.

Really? Because there wasn’t a move for touch screens phones before the iPhone. Before that, you didn’t get all the manufacturers revamping their current operating systems around touch. Because of iPhone, Microsoft is revamping WinMo to be touch centric. S60 has a touch version of their OS now. RIM has a touch version. Samsung is putting touchwiz on all their phones. They are all making flagship touch screen phones to compete with iPhone.

OH, then there is the little thing known as App store. Because of Apple and the app store, Microsoft is releasing their marketplace. Nokia has Ovi. Android has an online market. RIM has their own built in store. Hell, even the new version of Windows coming out will have an application for purchasing software the same way. And you are saying Apple isn’t turning the direction of mobile phones?

Even on the desktop. Take a look at Vista. Take a look at Windows 7. BOTH have features taken from OSX.

Back in the day they innovated computers by introducing the first easy to use desktop computer. Microsoft created Windows 3 to compete with Macintosh.

Podcasts made online streaming commonplace. iTunes revolutionised online music purchases, and now there are many services to compete with it.

Saying Apple has never innovated anything just shows your lack of knowledge in the history of computing. Oh … and hell … Macintosh had Hypercard which influenced a number of different technologies.

Apple responsible for touchscreens, sounds like the usual hype overshadowing the facts, all apple did was the same thing they did with mp3 players they brought out a good product and marketed it well, but they weren’t the innovators anymore than the ones you choose to label as johnny-come-lately.

Let’s not forget that Apple is responsible for changing the game in the first place and is responsible for all the johnny-come-lately touch-screen entries.

The biggest problem with the Pre, is…wait for it…Sprint. On Verizon, the Pre could be an iPhone killer.

The biggest advantage is that Apple will have a viable competitor in the space and will continue to innovate, the consumer wins.

Seriously,

People always want to knock Apple and their products, for the same reason MS fans knock the PS3; It’s because they can’t afford them! Sure, the $199 for the phone is feasible, but the $100 a month for service scares them. I owned both the 1st gen and the 3g, now because of work I’m using a BB bold, but i know that as soon as the new phone comes out (I’ll have one day 1 again), with the 3.0 software and push notifications, it’s pretty much over for all other smart phones in the market, including the Palm PRE (poor guy hasn’t even come out, and already has no chance). It isn’t about hardware or specs, it’s always been about software and that’s where Apple separates itself from the pack!

While people aren’t sounding too impressed with the specs, the combination of the new screen along with the various speed/memory/battery life increases make this a good upgrade that fits the pattern apple tended to take with the ipod where sometimes the main change was just an increase in the hd and making the device slightly smaller.

The iphone’s processor is rated at 667MHZ. So twice as fast is over 1Ghz. That is impressive if true. The camera at 3.2 is not uncommon. The iphone’s camera takes good pics at 2MP. Oled screen, 32GB isn’t impressive? What phone has built in 32GB? RIM, no, Nokia, No. Built in, not by SD card, and I know the iphone cannot upgrade it’s memory.

Stop whining. The phone might be made out of metal for all we know, the shiny black plastic gone is a good thing.

i gotta say…apple is just not build to make phones. This is some old school sh*t right here. These specs are pretty much a joke. Granted it would be great to have this all in the iphone….but 2 years ago. For today’s standards this is almost an insult. Plus no on-the-fl battery swap. ?????. I get 2 hours out of my Bolds battery cause im constantly on the phone. (that’s why i have six batteries and three external chargers). I couldn’t imagine doing half the things with the iphone, that i do with my Bold. It’s a real shame. They had an amazing product that they did nothing with. That’s some sad sh*t. A tear comes to my eye as i’ve loved apple since ‘92. But its still all good as long as the macbooks keep a-comin’
