Verizon’s upcoming BlackBerry releases: Tour, Pearl Flip, Atlas Storm 2 info

So check it. We just got a tip from a new ninja but this information looks really credible so we’re running it… Here’s the random bits of info we received:

  • All Verizon BlackBerry handsets launched after the BlackBerry Tour will have Wi-Fi
  • The Storm 2’s screen does not press in like SurePress, rather it operates more like traditional capacitive touch screen panels. We’re not sure if the rumored TruePress is just localized haptic feedback or what, but we can’t imagine RIM abandoning their entire fucking selling point on the Storm.
  • We have no idea what to think of this part, but, our tipster said the BlackBerry Tour would be accompanied by a BlackBerry Atlas with the Atlas having Wi-Fi, not the Tour. Again, don’t flip out, but it’s just what was told to us by this particular tipster.
  • BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 release is “imminent”. We’d say May release, June latest.
  • 8230 specs… EV-DO Rev. 0, 2.0 MP Camera, 3.5 ounces, Flash 128 MB, RAM 64 MB, SD Card – Expandable to 16GB, Usage/Standby – 220 min. / 216 hrs.

There you have it, guys!

It saves you money you idiot!……It keeps these phone companies from nickel and dyme’n ya to death and enables you to get on someone else network in places your network may not have coverage…….Please get a clue and stop allowing Blackberry and the phone companies to stop denying itz customers what they demand….

Can someone explain why or when you would need Wi-Fi if you have to subscribe to the internet/data package if you have a blackberry?

It’s odd that most of the people who *think WiFi is a must, are ATT customers. Could it be because your 3G is so rotten awful that you *have to have Wi-Fi just to get by?
While us Verizon customers have such blazing fast 3G speeds, *everywhere, we really don’t need Wi_fi.
Plus, so much wi-fi is hard to find for free. Seems everywhere I go with my laptop looking for Wi-Fi, it’s securely locked up or have to pay for it to use it.

Wifi is important to people who don’t have sufficient cell phone data coverage. For example, I work in the OR of a hospital and there is no cell phone coverage. I would like to receive emails etc but can’t. With Wifi, I can simply connect and receive emails.

I agree, yes if you are in your car or sitting on a park bench checking news on lunch, you should not ever have any need for WiFi. However in rural areas where cell coverage can be spotty at best. or In work locations where cell signals indoors blow. WiFi is a must. or about half of your phone no longer functions due to the lack of signal. Also no matter how fast one thinks their cell carrier is, plug into a WiFi network(especially at your home) and what your speeds go through the roof.

At home i always run WiFi. Average download speed on Data about 150k switch to WiFi and leverage my 16 mg cable and i am usually in the 2mb range.

Sometimes that is the difference between listening to an internet radio station like slacker or pandora or not!
