Verizon’s upcoming BlackBerry releases: Tour, Pearl Flip, Atlas Storm 2 info

So check it. We just got a tip from a new ninja but this information looks really credible so we’re running it… Here’s the random bits of info we received:

  • All Verizon BlackBerry handsets launched after the BlackBerry Tour will have Wi-Fi
  • The Storm 2’s screen does not press in like SurePress, rather it operates more like traditional capacitive touch screen panels. We’re not sure if the rumored TruePress is just localized haptic feedback or what, but we can’t imagine RIM abandoning their entire fucking selling point on the Storm.
  • We have no idea what to think of this part, but, our tipster said the BlackBerry Tour would be accompanied by a BlackBerry Atlas with the Atlas having Wi-Fi, not the Tour. Again, don’t flip out, but it’s just what was told to us by this particular tipster.
  • BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 release is “imminent”. We’d say May release, June latest.
  • 8230 specs… EV-DO Rev. 0, 2.0 MP Camera, 3.5 ounces, Flash 128 MB, RAM 64 MB, SD Card – Expandable to 16GB, Usage/Standby – 220 min. / 216 hrs.

There you have it, guys!

If VZW keeps this up I’m gonna have to stop calling them the Evil Empire. First they talk about decreasing prices for data, and now this? Somebody is getting it regularly over at big red.

Great. Now unlock the GPS for apps. Until then, Verizon is still only good for LG dumb phones.

if verizon adds wifi its doesnt matter anyway. You are required to have data with the blackberries. why do u need wifi , when i had tmobile and att i just made my data connection dial up MMS instead of gprs or edge for free data access.

8230 with rev 0, are you flippin kidding me???
who wants a rev 0 DATA INTENSIVE device these days?
i.e. one that MUST have a data plan yet would be so painfully slow, how dumb 4/5 of my phones now are Rev A the fifth is only used as a phone with my DockNTalk.

Great that verizon finally gets a flip BB but come on RIM.. get with the times…

Guys I go away for a bit? And this?

I’m really curious about this “Atlas” more than anything, in this post! Could it be the Hybrid LTE BB?
Or a BB Curve Sized Storm? Or? What?

“accompanied by a BlackBerry Atlas with the Atlas having Wi-Fi, not the Tour”

This dosent sound like a “device” to me. “Accompanied? Seems like a “wifi accessory” more then anything else. But then again, do you think its just a ‘board’ that enables wifi on the Tour? Nah, don’t think so either. So much for mystery here.

Is it possible that Tour and Atlas are a Vodafone/Verizon release. The last dual release for Verizon/Vodafone was the Blackberry Storm/Thunder. Is it possible that one of these companies will have the Wi-Fi and the other won’t? I’m hoping that the Atlas will come to Big Red and the Tour will go to our Voda counterparts. Because having a Wi-Fi enabled blackberry on VZW would be the most pwn thing ever.

3G uses way more battery than Wi Fi, and Wi Fi works where there is no good reception, like inside certain office buildings, hospitals, if you live in a area where there arent many towers around, the basement of your house, etc…

Don’t think so. The thunder never saw the light of day. Its called the “storm” on both VZ and vodaphone. Its still possible that its two names that’s just floating around (javalin rings a bell? Anybody?)and 1 of them will be a finallist.

For the love of all that is good and holy, Verizon, just uncripple the GPS on all of your smatphones. I want to use Google Maps the way it’s meant to be. I want to be able to find my way in the city without being told I am anywhere within 1000 meters of this circle.

If it’s true, I applaud Verizon for allowing WiFi on the upcoming Blackberries. Please keep up the improvements by letting us use the GPS chips we paid for.

Absolutely right on. ATT has more bars in more places cause you have to have a drink to keep from throwing you freekin’ phone against the was. Anyone that thinks ATT has a better network than Verizon is screwing their ATT rep.

    shutupalready says:

for those of you who are saying VZW is “crippling”, lets look at a different aspect of digital communications where ATT is crippling…Verizon is spending billions on laying fiber to millions of homes for internet/tv/phone capable of reaching speeds well over 75mbps…whereas ATT is taking the cheap route and running fiber to within 1000-3000 feet of homes, and then converting it to run over your POTS twisted pair (for internet/tv/phone)and only capable of reaching 30 mbps….so who’s crippling now???

As for 3g speeds, I’ve never had any problems with signal or speed, in fact I’ve run speed tests on my phone and have hit 5 mbps….same speed i would get out of my laptop running wifi on my dsl at home….and yes I use ATT for my internet/tv/landline phone….but only cause big red hasnt laid fiber to my house yet :)
