Bell is pushing hard to get the Pre out in early August

A week ago, Canada’s Bell announced that it has the exclusive rights to get the Pre party started in Canada. With an ETA as vague as 2H09 however, it’s a bit hard to get excited just yet — not that those South of the 49th parallel have had a fun time with their 1H09 launch window. Thankfully we’ve received a little nugget of information from one of our ninjas who is now able to confirm that Bell is working feverishly to get the Palm Pre in time for an early August release, with the only real variable to this launch window being the number of devices Bell is able to score from Palm. You see, Bell doesn’t want to repeat the whole BlackBerry Storm launch fiasco in which Bell “launched” the Storm on December 10th with well under a thousand devices in its possession. The good news however, is that if Bell is able to snag enough handsets then the launch could happen at an earlier date. Then again, it’s more than likely that demand for the device in the US will throw a wrench into Bell’s plans. Again.
Thanks, D!

Cool I can’t wait
Yea, dont see how theyre gonna make enuff 4 Sprint AND serve Canada too….more like November prolly. Besides if they get it canada first wats it matter how soon they get it
Posted BGR Mobile (who gives a shit)
Well, if canada is gonna give us theirs -the 9630- first, then we’ll consider the swap. Sound like a deal to me. Anyone?
well the 9630 is going to hit us canadians first, and i would thing palm has been mass producing/testing them for awhile. i wouldnt care about the pre if the 9630 is getting released this summer
Enough about the 9630, who needs another minor Blackberry hardware revision? That OS is starting to feel like Palm OS and something seriously needs to be done about it for me to care.
@3 Phones Jugglin: When the Pre comes out are you going to be jugglin 4 phones?
Seriously, how hard is it to make a couple million phones?
For real – once a production line is made how hard is it to make a couple million handsets?
Don’t do that. Steve jobs is a wonderfull human being that suffers a lot these days. Why wuld you dance on his grave?
i really wanted a pre about ummmmmm 6 months ago im gettin sick of waiting for a phone that has no track record who to say the pre will live up to the hype anyways all the other phones we talk about on here atleast have a track record BB iPhone and so on if you look at palm track record its bomb after bomb so maybe this phone aint worth waiting for after all no one was ever all reved up for a treo right ? ? ?
@ Steve
Lol, no i Still Hav a Sprint for Personal use, Gov issued Blackberry (Verizon) and a Boost Mobile that i chirp wit
Josh, the phone 1st came about 2 weeks the new year…. 5 months ago. Give it some time, I’m starting to think this to show it can compete with any iPhone
What frequency bands do you Bell Canadians use aye? Will this be a revdo phone for you guys too?
This is good news for me since my 3yr contract for bell ends early august and i get a $300 dollar credit to buy this phone. I was worrying i would have to wait awhile with no phone before i could get this one.
Talking to my cousin who works for UPS down south tells me the Pre’s came in under armed guard and placed in a holding area where no one was allowed. Says they were being shipped to stores. I asked him how he knew and was told that usually phones come in and they get to take a look at whats shipping out except for this batch. He tells me the stores will have them very soon, like this week!!
@wallyson
Bell and Telus uses the same technology as Verizon and Sprint – CDMA/1x/EVDO/LTE. Also, Bell and Telus has committed to convert some of the bandwidth to HSPA (due to complete before 2010 Olympics.)
Telus also owns Nextel PTT technology.
The Pre is almost enough to make me want to jump back on Sprint with my wife, but for now my E71 should hold me over on AT&T until some GSM WebOS phones surface. The ability to jump around on phones with a simple SIM switch is too much to win me over to the Pre for now.
the pre came out 3 weeks ago with sprint why’s it taking so long to come to canada?
I work with sprint; And personaly im always getting notices-
DO NOT SELL THE PALM PRE- OUT OF STOCK
When we go out of stock every few days, Double that for canada! Were toast in telesales.
I live in canada, so i cant wait until the palm pre comes out!
