June Zune Surprise: ZuneHD or new phone from Microsoft? [UPDATED]
June 2009 is going to be a big month: WWDC (iPhone announcement), the Palm Pre will be in action and rumor has it Microsoft has big news for the Zune. While many would speculate that the latter would mean a Zune phone from Microsoft, we’re thinking more along the lines of a Zune HD. After all, Microsoft explicitly said, “Microsoft is not going into the phone hardware business. Microsoft is not building a Zune-specific phone.” Stranger things have happened though, right? This fire was started by a Twitter account that detailed what would be included in Office 2010, such as Twitter and Facebook integration. It then went on to say “New product launch, that’s all I’m allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre.” That would imply a phone, so we’re not sure where things are headed at this point. Whatever it is, at this point the only real reason to hold off on buying a new iPhone or Pre is to avoid the lines.
UPDATE: Apparently the Twitter account that started this new wave of excitement was revealed to be fake and Microsoft’s Office 2010 site accidentally linked to it. Mmm. No new Zune phone, no Zune HD until later this year. Moving along people, nothing more to see here.
Please Microsoft Win this time…please win.
This is a perfect opportunity…The time has come. Do what has to be done.
palm would have been better off pushing the pre out in april…because by the looks of things theres about to a lot of competition.about 4 months ago I was almost for certain I was going to roll with the pre as long as it was released before…..right now I’m not so sure.
I am holding off for the touch pro 2 because I want to go back to Windows Mobile. If the Zune was a phone with a real keyboard then ‘d get it over the tp2… But now I’m just dreaming aren’t I?!

I’d love to see some real competion come to the I-Phone and the WM HTC phones. How about some Quad Band 3G and a huge HD screen?
I doubt an MS phone is coming.
WM 7 is nowhere to be seen, 6.5 was announced in February and still isn’t in our hands.
Hell, MS can’t even bring to market the things it publicly acknowledges, much less something it vehemently denies.

Why would anyone think that MS has a Zune phone running an OS anywhere near what the iPhone has when they are just now popping out 6.5? We know what a rehash that is. And suddenly, in three weeks, they have the iPhone killer?
They also thought their Zune was going to complete with the iPod/Touch and we all know the result of that.
I can’t wait until june I’m a huge Microsoft/Zune Fan!
I doubt all 10 people who own a Zune are going to go out and buy the phone too

Pathetic. Everything seen about the next two versions of Win Mobile proves any Zune Phone will be a dud.
keep your current phone and by a zune hd. if you buy an iphone/pre, than you really wouldn’t want to buy a touch screen zune. especially if an announcement is made at E3. that’s what i think. not a phone.
Give me a ZuneHD with at least 120GB of storage space and a sexy screen. I will toss my iPod so fast it’ll make your fucking head spin.

I’m definitely interested in what Microsoft has to offer.
Personally, I would settle for an ipod “touchesque” device with divx compatibility and a web browser/email option. Then again, who am I? Ahh yes, a consumer….

owning a Zune 120 and an HTC touch, I could go for something developed off the Zune interface, but Winmo has toomany issues, don’t get me wrong, it’s great for what it was the same as OSX iPhone is great for what it is now, but Both are really stagnating in a field that thrives on innovation. the iPhone is a great phone, but the changes they’ve made over the past 2 years has dwindled next to the original concept. Why do all of the phone makers assume that they are going to be different, they will survive on this one phone for the next 5 years?
