Chinese forum leaks possible next generation iPhone details, hints at Internet tablet

Patapon200, a member of the Chinese forum weiphone, has released a screenshot and some specifications reportedly detailing the next generation iPhone. Expected to be announced at the upcoming WWDC, the new iPhone is rumored to have:

  • 600MHz CPU (up from 400MHz)
  • 256MB RAM (up from 128MB)
  • Digital Compass and FM
  • 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus
  • 32GB size
  • Model #: MB717LL
  • No major changes in battery, screen and external casing.

The poster also hinted at the existence of a 9.7-inch wide touchscreen-sporting Apple tablet that is supposedly in pre-production now with the internal codename K48. Just for the record, though Chinese forums have been a source of accurate leaked information in the past, the poster in this case has no such track record.

    And just to clarify my stance with Apple and Microsoft so you don’t think I’m just some Apple hater. I own an ipod touch and am thinking about purchasing the new iphone when it comes out. When it comes to a computer, I will always stick with Microsoft, because that is what I need to for work.

    @Steve,
    That whole post was about innovation. Microsoft created Windows and was the marketing genius that put their operating system on top. BUT, good old Bill Gates rarely created his own ideas. They were either adaptations of ideas created by other companies, or software purchased by them and retro-fitted into Windows. For example, the disk scanning and de-fragmenting tools that came out in Windows 95 were purchased. Back in the day QEMM created better memory management with the release of QEMM386 and microsoft copied their implementation. Multitasking concepts taken from Desqview. And this goes on to the present.
    SURE they created their own ideas, but that is few in comparison to what they did not.

    So I dont what you do for a living, where you live, or how old you are. But you clearly do not live in the “computer” world.

    @Steve,
    Apple contributed a lot to modern day computing. Like I said in an earlier post, desktop computing would not be the same had Apple not been in the picture. Most likely Microsoft would not have been king of the OS market either. Bill Gates was not a stellar programmer. He purchased a command line OS from some guy and sold it back to IBM as his own product to get started! It was Apple who created the very first desktop, brought out the first consumer desktop computer, introduced the concept of the icon to the masses. Microsoft only came out with Windows because Steve Jobs foolishly showed Bill Gates details on how his operating system was able to work with this new thing called the mouse pointer and other behind the scenes ideas.

    Anyone who knows anything about computer history or has been in the industry before the internet became a mass market commodity will agree that Apple had a MAJOR part in desktop computing.

    Hey Steven, you stole my name and theory!! i’ll repeat just incase you forgot.

    I’ve got it figured out (or a good theory)

    Well everyone I have a good idea to what’s going on in the world of apple. Possibly, a new iphone could be unveiled at WWDC and it will be the new iphone everyone is expecting the one with the supposed chinese screen shot (Iphone 2,1). However at another event perhaps a month later apple could unveil…wait for it THE IPHONE PRO. (Iphone 3,1)

    I know it’s a little out there in terms of actually happening but if you think about it, it goes together nicely with lots of the rumors. For example the whole “Iphone 3,1″ thing operating under the 3.0 software. Also wasn’t there a rumor about a 3.2 megapixel camera order with a 5.0 megapixel camera coming later on in the year? Hopefully it will go on the Iphone pro. Also this could be the family of iphones mentioned above and would be a nice way to welcome Steve back- by introducing a device nobody thought possible ( 64 gigs, 5 meg camera, 1Ghz processor, slide out keyboard or keyboard “attachement” to appeal to business/former blackberry users?)

    Let me know what you think.

    You damn iPhone is sucking up too much bandwidth as it is now. Look for AT&T to limit what these poor designed devices can do in the future unless you want to do it via WiFi. They need to charge like $150 a month for the bvandwidth you use!

    A lot of people still don’t know about this yet, but Nokia is going to be making netbooks soon. The new “Booklet” will have a hot-swappable SIM card slot for 3G access in addition to wifi! http://laptoptribune.blogspot.com
