T-Mobile G1 v2 made by Motorola, not HTC? Motorola’s first Android phone?

You read that right! We just got a tip that basically more or less confirmed the phone we posted a couple days is going to be manufactured by Motorola for T-Mobile. Why isn’t HTC in the picture on this one? We have no idea. We’ve checked with a second source who also confirmed that this was going to be the case. Plus, look at the image real closely… Look at the keyboard font and the buttons on the front of the device — there’s stuff HTC just wouldn’t do — they’re totally crazy wild Moto style. Our question of the day is, does anyone care what I just wrote?

Thanks, Kevin and our other anonymous ninja!

I for one am glad the moto is going to be making it I have always had good luck with their phones. However HTC’s on the other hand I have seen a lot of issues in my line of work. I personally don’t care for the Android platform but it is good to see a legacy manufacture getting into newer platforms.

I might have tolerated the wimpy HTC battery spec, but Moto isn’t something I can even consider.

Unlike the rest of you fortunetellers:) I am reserving judgment until I see it. I’ve had motorola handsets and had an htc before. Moto has always had problems with their software. That’s where they fail most often. So I think this is a good move since its android and not their own crappy OS. My HTC started peeling everywhere and the build quality was crap.. Don’t get me started on the battery. But I did like that phone when I initially got it. Anyways I think the more the merrier and I hope its good b/c competition will make every phone better.

The Motorola hatred always surprises me. Get hold of some neutral test results and check the RF performance of Motorola vs HTC or anyone else. Motorola is always near the top.

HTC makes bad hardware, it is junk. Just hold one for 1 minute and you can see it lacks good build quality.

As for the Motorola Sidekick phone, that was only labeled Motorola. In the dumbest move at the time, Motorola took a phone designed by Danger and stuck there label on it.

I hope this is Motorola. Combine Motorola RF performance and build quality with a good looking Android phone and you have a winner.

Boy, I can’t wait to get a handle on that.

HTC makes a lot of phones but they don’t feel good in my hands as good as they looked in the pictures.

If this mis a Moto device, count me out. I have the G1, and while this is infinitely sexier than that banana, I appreciate the fact that my G1 works when I want it to. What a freakin’ disappointment….

    Motorola DOES make good phones.
The Qs were wonderful & well made.

BUT… I thing that was the downfall.
They spent too much time with the Q, without innovation or even keeping up, and trying to capitalize on the Razr line.

If this turns out to be a Moto I’d be glad to use it if it was on a real carrier.
I hate everything about T-mobile, except they seem to be scooping everyone of some nice phones.

Ppl are just trampling on moto here.
I’ve used all kinds of phones, LG, samsung etc. I’ve had the best experience with moto in terms of voice quality, ear piece, speaker sound. (I.e. The most important thing in a phone) I’m using now the W755 its awesome. Loud and clear voice. Unfortunately they don’t know how to compete in todays market,so they are losing it.
P S. Hopefully this will not be an obituary…….

Did someone seriously wish this was a Samsung? God, Samsung makes some of the worst electronics in the world. They are completely unreliable, built extremely cheap, buggy, you name it. And I’m not just talking about phones. I’ve had a Samsung MP3 player, worked with Samsung cameras, cell phones… I’m at the point in my life where the only thing I’ll ever consider buying and or using with the name Samsung on it is an LCD TV. I’ve been happy with THAT purchase, at least. Not that I’m saying most Motorola phones over the last few years aren’t awful, but they have had some good ones. I have a ZINE that I love and have had no problems with. I wish someone would take the camera out of it and put it on an Android phone… hmmm… Maybe it’ll be on this thing?

There are other sites that are saying that the G1v2 is by Samsung.

The one they’re showing matches the original picture of the G1v2 that we got on the android road map.

I’m thinking this moto device is completely different.

Hell, yeah, I care! I love Motorola phones- they’ve always worked beautifully for me and the one piece o’ crap HTC phone I bought ended up being returned within days when I realized that I would have to charge the damn thing twice a day! I can’t believe what crappy phones HTC make and yet T-Mobile, knowing all about the “known issues” related to them, continued selling them.
