T-Mobile G1 v2 made by Motorola, not HTC? Motorola’s first Android phone?

You read that right! We just got a tip that basically more or less confirmed the phone we posted a couple days is going to be manufactured by Motorola for T-Mobile. Why isn’t HTC in the picture on this one? We have no idea. We’ve checked with a second source who also confirmed that this was going to be the case. Plus, look at the image real closely… Look at the keyboard font and the buttons on the front of the device — there’s stuff HTC just wouldn’t do — they’re totally crazy wild Moto style. Our question of the day is, does anyone care what I just wrote?

Thanks, Kevin and our other anonymous ninja!

    I don’t get it! Why are you blaiming Moto for everythink.Please remember that it was first in 2003. Motorola has some amazing devices and this device , which is really cool , is the first step to rise again to the top. Also they could make devices ten times better than Samsung’s. Why can’t you people recognize this efford? Motorola is still alive and weell, preparing to launch some amazing Android devices!!!! :)

    LOL at all the Moto hate, especially for the Sidekick Slide. Face it chumps, the Sidekick Slide was infinitely better than the original Sidekick LX (which also launched at the same time). Faster processor, double the RAM, louder speaker, and wasn’t the size of a brick. It actually outsold the Sidekick 2 & 3 put together in some countries like the UK and Australia.

    I hate that people assume that it wasn’t a good phone just because MOTO made the hardware. I guarantee most of those people never even used one.

    I rock a G1 right now, so it’ll be interesting to see how this device ends up.

    I’ll br happy with an HTC Touch Pro 2 with Android loaded, as soon as TOMTOM or another relase a decent GPS for it.

    Motorola has always made great hardware – reception is good, the hardware is rugged, the cameras are decent, and they’ve got good blutooth.

    Now if they could just get a decent design (like this one), they may have a winner.

    I’d also like to see a Window Mobile variant.

    boygenius, you are really genius! this is a perfect social experiment on the effects of branding … the marketing dept of moto really needs to target *cough* the kids *cough* that read your blog. :)

    This does not look good for the G1, why they picked motorola for the phone i have not the slightest clue.. but Motorola SUCKS plain and simple. My wife successfully killed 4 of them from dropping it while i had my first Dash. (HTC Excaliber) I dropped my dash hundreds of times and it never gave me a problem other than the usual minor issues that the dash already had. This is a sad day in the mobile phone world.

    This phone and the Morrison are the same. Compare the images and you will see!

    So we already do have the specs of it (from androidandme.com) :

    * CPU: Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz
    * Memory: 256MB RAM
    * Flash Rom: 512 MB
    * Memory Card Type: microSDHC, Class 6, 32 GB supported (max)
    * Display: 320×480 (HVGA)
    * Accelerometer: 3-axis, Four-way screen rotation
    * Magnetometer
    * Proximity Sensor
    * Ambient Light Sensor
    * Voice Bands: GSM 850/900/1800/1900, W-CDMA 900/(1700 or 1900)/2100
    * Wireless Lan: 802.11 b/g, WEP, WPA, 802.11i (WPA2)
    * Bluetooth Version: 2.0 + EDR
    * Bluetooth Profiles: A2DP, AVRCP, GAP, HFP 1.5, HSP, SDAP, SPP
    * USB: USB 2.0 High Speed, Micro USB connector
    * Headset Jack: 3.5mm, Stereo out, Mic

    * Location Services: Standalone GPS w/ internal antenna, Assisted GPS, E-Compass

    * Email Attachment Support: QuickOffice v2 Viewer formats

    It has at least better memory than the G1 and a better camera too, and “Android and Me” says it has advantages over the My Touch 3G.

    I read that a Moto insider says this is the later version of the phone, the blue ones were early prototypes (and like you, people thought the were too teen-ish).

    I agree this picture matches with the blue and white version on many sites that was criticized for its blue and white color scheme. Maybe this is the real one after all as you say. It looks much better.
