Palm and Sprint announcing Pre availability May 19th in the WSJ?

We just got a tip from a very proven tipster who informed us that Palm and Sprint were set to make a big announcement in the Wall Street Journal on May 19th. They said that there’s a very good chance of Palm and Sprint announcing the Pre release date then. Confusing, eh? Well, if we were betting boys, our money would be on Tuesday the 19th. We will soon see!

Great news, hope the June 7th date is correct. In the long run if the Pre is a solid device the developers will come.

for anyone saying what happened to us being premier customers… sprint wont forget you I’m sure sprint is going to email its premier customers just like they did with the instinct on its original arrival last year and give us first dips on the device probably on the thursday before it releases they shot me an email last year when the instinct became available with an exclusive offer that i could have printed and went into a store to purchase the instinct ahead of any other customers who werent premier customers and any other people who werent customers at all

I see the pre as more of a blackberry competitor than a iphone competitor. Most bb users want the features and iphone screen, but are unwilling, or unable to part with a qwerty keypad.

This seems like a reasonable compromise between iphone and bb that will attract bb users and not iphone users, because, well, the iphone could be a steaming pile and iphone users would probably still defend the thing to the death.

Wow, I made someones day because I spoke highly of the G1 update. Look her pal, cup cake will be released this week. I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings about a phone that technically doesn’t exist, since no one can review it. By the way. Your iPhone is way more advance then any web based phone. Instead of crying about the damn Pre, you need to get excited about the iPhone 3.0 update and a possibility of more advance iPhone.

It is all about the price. If this costs more than 199.99 dollars. You are out, Pal.
At launch, it would be ok to price it at 199.99 dollars. When iphone 3.0 launches around July, this phone price needs to come down.
Most of people know that web os will be coming to other carriers as well. If you wait like 6-12 months, there will be web os phones on every carriers. If Palm Pre sales suffer, then we will see more web os phones on other carriers by end of this year.

Translation: Someone is playing the stock and seeks to run up the price a few more pennies before the real, actual, formal, official release. The mention of WSJ is a new spin on all the other rumors that have come down the rumor road so far.

I was thinking this phone may be something I’d want, but it’s really starting to hit home that it’s going to Sprint. I can’t get myself to limit my world to CDMA.

    @attguy

You’re an idiot! Have you used anything other than iPhone ’smart’phone???

Palm (ie Handspring) had the Treo around a decade ago…there’s a REASON smartphones have a REAL keyboard on them -IT’S USEFUL!

I, as with MANY others, enjoy KNOWING we’re typing rather than just having to WATCH what we’re typing.

    Again…idiot!

I have been so excited about this phone, but the lack of letting it be shared with anyone makes me worry about smoke in mirrors. I’m tired of my windows mobile phone, and would have pounced on the phone if it had released early this month… but I might as well wait a month or two to see what Apple and HTCs new phones look like on the market. I love WebOS and think Palm’s on a wonderful track so I hope they don’t have to close doors but even for a gadget geek I can’t justify buying it knowing that I should wait a few weeks to see what’s around the corner.

Yeah the whole Sprint thing killed it for me.

All the carriers have decent built out 3G networks in my area (Los Angeles, CA)

This phone looks too wide and clunky even though I’m sure the screen would be nice.

With so many other choices in the Pipeline, I lost interest in this device weeks ago.

I think Palm would have been better off partnering with another carrier from the get go. It’s not that Sprint has a bad network, but it’s just that it won’t get the type of traction needed to turn around either company.

Palm came to us and showed us the pre back in april and we were simply amazed with it , the pre is better than 3.0 and andriod. I can tell ur a fanboy you think the iphone is the best thing since sliced bread, i hate to tell you but it isnt anymore. Webos is not a joke amd the pre is the real deal, i didnt get to touch it but i saw it and fell in love.
Back to andriod, andriod is garabe u made my day when u said people shoild be happy anout that.

AGREED! The Pre has lost it’s sizzle…I am going to wait to see what the new iPhone is like and then will decide to leave Sprint after all these years. If the occupants of the Sprint Ivory Tower reads any posts-know that your customers are tired of defending why they stay with you. This might be my PRE-cursor to leaving for an iPhone.

The SERO plan is cheap and a great deal. If they are subsidizing the phone it will take them the entire 2 years of the contract to break even if they even. So people please stop complaining if the Sprint doesn’t allow the phone on SERO. It would be great if they did but if they don’t then I can totally see why. They aren’t making any money on SERO. Those who complain go to Verizon and pay $40 a month for 450 minutes, $30 for unlimited data, and $20 for unlimited texting. Which is $90 a month, compared to $30 on SERO. I guess some people will complain even if you give them something for free.
