BlackBerry Storm OS 4.7.0.141 fails Verizon Wireless testing

Wondering what happened to the Storm OS .141 update we said should have dropped late last month? We had heard rumors of some problems with the OS but over the weekend we got word from a trusted ninja that the much anticipated OS .141 has failed Verizon Wireless’ testing. Oh. No. Too many glitches remain, so this update is supposedly dead in the water. There is no word yet on a new OS version nor any expected release date for a future update. The big question now is what RIM and Verizon will do with the Storm. Will we see another 4.7 version go through testing, will both companies ditch 4.7 and roll out an OS 5.0 update or will development on the Storm be shelved in lieu of the rumored Storm 2? In any case, at this point we really better start to see some movement soon.

the phone just sucks
this is rediculous. I used .141 and other than the lock not working, it was excellent. fast and stable. hey verizon/rim, fix the lock function and release the dam OS. Its a hell of alot better than .75.
The more efficient question is what doesn’t suck about this phone?
Hmm.. Well I can see that Verizon has it’s priorities straight, at least on their end anyways. This phone has so much potential but with V blowing every update off like this the Palm Pre is looking better and better..
There was a problem with the phone resetting when a call came in while tethered. I have read that service disrupting bug is probably what sunk 141.
Vzw’s hope is that the tour will be ready sooner rather than later
Wasn’t it confirmed that this update wouldn’t even take for users upgrading from the latest official Verizon firmware? Can’t say I’m surprised.
I was thinking of buying a Storm off a disgruntled user, since so many frustrated users with no idea about the beta firmware are pitching them cheap…if RIM and Verizon decide to just let the phone die and focus on the Storm 2 though, I’ll pass.
the phone is great in my opinion. too many haters around here. no phone is perfect, look at the garbage apple released with the first iphone. they still havent got it right until 3.0 is released. then you are still stuck on a garbage network called at&t.
back to commenting on the article at hand. 4.7.0.141 is decent, but what really makes the storm a solid and reliable phone is the hybrid 5.0.0.90/4.7.0.141 beta. my storm works absolutely perfect now. no lag, no hourglasses, and very very rare battery pulls. dont know what i am talking about with the hybrid beta OS? check out a certain forum associated with another crackberry site. you wont be disappointed with the OS.
This is ridiculous!!!!
VZW might as well release an OS 5.0 ver for the Storm.

NOTHING is perfect, and when you make claims as you did it becomes instantly clear that you’re a tool.
Awesome news. I guess I’m going to have to borrow some ones Windows-based computer to install the leaked OSs – the hybrid one sounds the best so far.
How dumb. Verizon is really showing their stupidity with this device.
I am extremely happy that AT&T is buying out Alltel here in the West, FINALLY Verizon will have some good competition, unlocked GSM phones here I come!
I find this funny…lol. I am so glad I jumped ship on that POS ans switched to the Bold on AT&T. I will NEVER go back to Verizon! Once they have ur money they dont care whether your device works properly. Look how long it took for OS 4.5 to be released for the 8830WE. Simply put they are a shady carrier.
The fact that they have went this long to get an update out is a disgrace
141 still sucks. Lock function is gay. Phone freezes up sometimes while in google talk. Still pulling the battery every couple of days.
Can people please learn how to spell ridiculous?
WTF, other than the radio files how does 4.7.0.141 differ on the9500 vs 9530? Vodafone released their .141 update and rumor was it was very different than the leaked OS.
While I do applaud Verizon’s goal on a solid OS, their failure to release some incremental updates is keeping the iPhone POS fanboys up late at night writing new garbage posts about how their phone is soooo much better.
iPhone 1.0 was launched with lots of bugs, yes it was. iPhone 2.0 also launched with bugs.
What RIM needs to do is follow one of the few policies Apple got right. Apple controls the OS patches and NOT the carriers. RIM must adopt this policy it would allow them to more quickly resolve bug fixes and push updates out.
why not just release .131 or whatever the other carriers released months ago. if they keep waiting for the next revision, it will never get updated. isn’t it still on .75?
there’s no update that will fix the wobbly screen, which is honestly MY biggest problem with the device. Not Good.
i think they r just gonna go with the storm 2 just to make everyone who is unhappy WITH A STORM UPGRADE so they will make more money off of that instead everyone being happy with there current storm. cause seriously do they make any money off a ota upgrade of the os no will they make money off people buying a strom 2 hell ya look were the money is that where u will find the answer.
Vodafone’s .141 is no different than the leaked version. It’s busted and Verizon was right to nix this build.
The pressure is on RIM to get a stable build out. .132 was close, and .141 would be even closer if it weren’t for the lock bug.
That said, .75 really, really needs to go. Sigh. At least the Tour is the same hardware minus the touchscreen, so it should be better off.
Now I officially hate the Storm and Verizon! I am switching to the iPhone! Stupid carrier and stupid phone!
I dont know… I know many people who got this phone, tested it out and were unsure, it took more then 30 days to do everything on a BlackBerry (and yes, they are THAT extensive it really does take about 2 months to understand everything they have to offer), so they couldnt return them, of course the problems start.
Applications dont work over JUST TOUCH screens, unless its Apple designed apps (duh). One of the issues people had with Instinct (the apps never worked), and same with Storm. From buggy OS to bad applications to just plain out the acceleromiter thing however its spelled not working properly, the Storm is full of problems.
While I hear the phone works great on Voda, and has a minimal amount of software issues, seems Verizon doesnt test their phones as rigorously as they used to – and really wanted an iPhone killer to push out the gate. Personally this is a CDMA phone I think Sprint would have got, and fucked up on, but didnt. WOW THATS A FIRST.
At the end of the day, if an OS revision works for majority of companies but not the one, Id say its time for that company to end its relationship with RIM and stop carrying something thats berated on their carrier more then the others that still carry it. I think that Storm 2 should address these issues and be fixed BEFORE launch. I also think that Storm left a bad taste in the mouths of so many new BlackBerry owners and returning owners that those who are new (like many of my friends) will switch to an iPhone or something else thinking its BB’s fault, and those who are BB users will NOT buy something thats a revision of the same phone they had that was crap. Much like me and Instinct, while I do like it, I dont love it, and Im not going to buy any new revisions of same phone.
Thats just my case in point… Storm left bad tastes, and while it might be great for some, the broad picture is in America, the phone sucks for too many.
Switched off the storm back to the Bold, couldnt be happier.
Take off the storm fan boy glasses and realize its a p.o.s. Im sure RIM is going to focus on Storm 2, while VZW keeps pushing their Lemon of a phone on to unsuspecting consumers.
Its a shame, I hope RIM doesn’t get a bad rap for how poorly handled the device was. Other than the weird screen, I thought RIM built a winner. I have absolutely no problems finding official OS from other world wide carriers that may or may not fix bugs in other BBs I’ve owned, its that these carriers determine when updates are pushed out and that’s wrong IMO.
Honestly, TMo is the best at pushing out ”official” OS updates. ATT is damn horrible, and by all accounts, so is Verizon.
I really think the update push outs need a revamp, RIM needs to take more control over when the OSs are released, so that the user base that only awaits ”official” releases are alienated. I have buddies that won’t update their device until their carriers do it, and is aggravates me to no end because they are complaining about some bug that was fixed in another OS update. I have to resort to yanking their phone while they aren’t looking and taking it home to update for them.
I hope the Storm2 isn’t auto fail due to the fail of Verizon on the handling of the Storm
people who buy blackberries are losers
