T-Mobile’s Walmart roadmap: T-Mobile G2 with a surprise
You thought T-Mobile would go ahead and launch the same identical HTC Sapphire hardware as those other carriers, didn’t you? Well, it looks like good old T-mo US might have a surprise up its sleeve — at least it did. You’ll be pleased as punch to know that besides the rumored color options (which this photo does confirm to a certain extent), the T-Mobile G2 (if that is the actual name) will apparently feature a 5 megapixel camera instead of a 3.2 megapixel one. Who says your buddies at BGR don’t come through with the goods? We’re looking at a July release from Walmart and a $179 price tag with a 2-year contract. I like the magic l ayout better but a 5 mp can is nice,but how about beefing all the internal hardware up
Didn’t we know this (the 5MP cam) since it hit the FCC?
5MP camera was a known feature right from when this was rumored to come to TMO.
That lense looks tiny and no flash. So in other words, pointless to make it 5mp.

Personally, I don’t buy a phone for it’s camera. I look at it as an extra bonus. I am well awake of my iphone’s poopy camera. When I want to take real pictures, I bust out my nikon D90.

If the still picture resolution is being increased, I wonder if the video recording quality is also being increased?
I have held this phone and toyed with the on-screen keyboard, and find it to be terrible. I’d normally chuck that up to not being used to the device, but I spent almost an entire day with it. Usually you can get a feel for the keys by that time.

I just read on the BGR homepage, that t-mobile is going to require data plans for all smartphones starting in june… what about those who dont want the data plan. Meaning that the phone that I’ve waited so long for, is phone that I can’t use because I dont want to opt for a stupid data plan.
you already have to have a data plan for the G1 to work.
I agree with the comments about the camera, what’s the point of making an awesome phone like this and not simply adding a camera?
