T-Mobile’s Walmart roadmap: T-Mobile G1 v2

So check this, our brothers and sisters at TmoToday broke news of this second iteration of the T-Mobile G1 aka Bigfoot (aka Morrison according to the Walmart roadmap). But we’ve uncovered something very sexy — an awesome image! Full slide-out HTC-style QWERTY? Check. Look for this to drop in October for $148 with a 2-year agreement at Walmart (so, $149.99 on T-Mobile then?). If the hit or miss hardware design of the G1 wasn’t your thing and the Magic’s lack of QWERTY has you disappointed, the G1 v2 is where it’s at.

Liking the looks
I like the design of this one. Hopefully the keyboard is easy to type on and the keys click well. And man that price is where it’s at…
confused, looks like a tp2
3.5mm jack?
My God…This could be my DREAM phone for real. I was just saying to myself…”I wish there was a non Win-Mo phone that looked like the iPhone but had a slide out QWERTY”. Then I open up BGR and jizzed in my pants. I hope this is for real. This would make me forget all about the Pre.
So if its a HTC phone where was it on the roadmap?
nice i sow this in engadget and came here
This is what the first G1 should have been. Not that ugly brick.
I admit, the G1 is fugly(Jay Leno wants his chin back), but it is functional. While this may be a prettier, slicker device, i don’t think it will feel as nice or have the ease of use as the first G1. This acutally looks like a HTC touch pro which in my humble opinion felt like crap when i tried it. but i guess it really doesn’t matter b/c it will still be on t-mo’s sloppy network
Either way you still have to use 2 hands to type, which is what turned me off the first G1 and all phones you MUST turn sideways to type. It’s nice to have when you WANT to type with 2 hands, but when you CAN’t type with two hands, it’s a burden.
I’m starting to think this isn’t the same device.
Unless there is more to back it up I don’t think this is the G1v2.
First off four different names (Morrison, bigfoot, whatever it ends up being called at retail, and the internal name) is a new high even for HTC.
2nd on the android roadmap you saw this coinciding with the end of life of the G1 yet here they’re side by side.
Having just dumped my G1 after 5 months of use I’m open to any other hardware options anyone can bring to the table. While I like the qwerty, having to slide it out to use it became a pain in the arse. On the other hand, the size of the keys was nice. I love Android but someone has to get a piece of perfect hardware to go with it.
DO WANT
any chance of a CDMA version gracing Verizon ever?
man I’d LOVE to have a phone like this on Verizon.
Wait a minute…can’t you one hand type with the new onscreen keyboard on the Android “cupcake” download?
this is not made by htc or samsung…you would be surprised…
ROME, the new Android 1.5 build will have an on screen keyboard and you’ll be able to use it with a single hand.
I don’t understand why this is the G1 v2–why not just start from scratch and make it G3 or a completely different model?
@Jeremiah
Names change all the time, internal and external. G1 v2 is definitely not set in stone just yet.
WOW! If that happens to be the real thing I like the design, plus since iphone came out I always said a slider with a touchscreen will be the ultimate design this looks good. Is it enough to lure me from my crackberry? I doubt it.I would like Rim to comeout with something like this. Iphone and BB users are so loyal to their devices its tough to lure them.
Can we agree on something here that if new Iphone doesn’t come out with a slider keypad, the G1 v2 will steal a ton of Iphone customers?
What do you guys think?
@Jarmer
Every day I check out all the big gadget blogs looking for a Verizon smart phone announcement and every day I end up being disappointed. It’s amazing how shitty VZW’s smart phone selection is and continues to be. This whole summer is going to pass with the only new smart phone coming to Verizon being the damn Blackberry Tour. Another strictly business VZW smart phone with no consumer smart phones in sight.
Hint….hello Moto…..
Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).
@jba: Moto? Its Moto isn’t it?
@Keith: Tell me about it. I’m looking forward to the Glyde2. A sequel to one of the shittiest phones ever to ‘grace’ VZW is the one phone I’m looking forward to seeing.
Thats sad.
I just got the G1 may 1st… awesome phone.. def rivals iphone with pretty much all the exact same apps plus more! This news is bogus it seems.. other places say they are replacing the g1 with this model for free… errrmmm no.
All bogus from bogus wannabe sites.
The g1 can be used with one hand by the way, especially after the new OS phone update (cupcake 1.5) starting may 11th to 18th (pushed automatically to random tmo phones, and nubs with hacked 1.5 wont get the real 1.5)
But yeah its going to include touch screen keyboard… which some apps already have, but they are user made (which is why android owns the iphone in terms of apps)
Plus with g1 having sold 1 million+ units… its huuuuuuuuuge and growing big. Comments on the android market are insane… theres always 100 people AT LEAST on it at any time of the day. Watch out iphone…
The battery is the only thing I say sucks about the g1… if it lasted more than 24 hrs it would own the iphone for sure.
For the love of god can someone other than T-Mo get an Android phone?!?
