Internal Palm memo may reveal Pre launch timing

We’re prefacing this by saying we’re definitely not 100%, but it looks like Palm could be gearing up for a round of meetings that will lead up to the day we’ve all been waiting for — Palm Pre launch day. We just received what an anonymous tipster claims to be an internal Palm memo regarding some meetings that will take place in early June. According to the document, the meetings will conclude on Friday June 5th with what is labeled “LAUNCH LUNCH!”

Now, it’s likely a safe assumption that Palm isn’t going to leave much time for info to leak out between these supposed meetings and launch time. As such, it looks like the day of reckoning is either going to be Friday June 5th, Saturday June 6th or Sunday June 7th — and yes, Sunday is historically Sprint’s launch day but this is the Pre we’re talking about so switching things up isn’t out of the question. Giving some additional credence to the scenario by the way, is the fact that Best Buy is slated to begin its trial launch of the Pre on June 7th, meaning Sprint will most definitely launch the handset before or on that date. Getting excited yet? Hit the jump for the full memo.

    If it is indeed a June 7th or so launch then I think Palm and Sprint are shooting themselves in the foot and killing the launch. You know the iPhone announcement(s) will overshadow anything that Palm or Sprint announce and will make the Pre look less and less attractive.

    Palm and Sprint should have launched in May when mobile news is quiet or wait until a couple weeks after the iPhone news blows over a bit.

    @Bates,
    I have been waiting for Palms new OS since 2001 when they purchased BeOS, so that isn’t far off. I had fully expected than a mobile OS based on Be would kill Windows Mobile. So I guess you can count me on the list of people waiting for over a year.

    @Don Louie,
    Unprecidented sales for Sprint isn’t saying much at all. LOL That is why they are dying as a company! Despite all of the advertising they spent on the Instinct, it still was only average. This will be a phone on the Android scale as far as popularity, not on the iPhone scale.

    I think the Pre will have WAYYYYY more sales than the Android. I don’t even think I’ve seen more than ONE person out in the wild using one. I’ve played with them in the store, but that’s it. That’s the only time I’ve seen them.

    What major company puts out a memo with typos on it? I work for Radioshack and we deal AT&T and Sprint and I cant tell you how many memoms we get from both companies with at metric ton of typos… AT&T has put Spring instead of SPrint many times in memos about their prices compaired to Sprints… Humans type this junk… most of the times its the bubble gum chewing hair swirling bearly 18 secritary who does that typing… This wasn’t ment to be shown to the general puplic… Typos happen Ive seen them every time my At&T rep walks in the door… For some reason they are are really bad for it compaired to the other compaines I handle. BUt Dish Sprint AT&T everyone does it… stuff happens specially if its not ment for puplic vision… Although I agree Im not sure this means anything…

    It will sell more than Android at least. If Android was that great, everyone would ditch their phone for a G1..but wait…its on T-Mobile and you still cant thoroughly enjoy it fully.

    But retarded for holding out till an Iphone announcement. Put it this way, even if Pre overshadowed the New Iphone for awhile…..AT&T STILL has Blackberry Bold and a New Curve in the next Month Or So to make up for it and shit on Sprint for having old RIM devices.

    And the Document looks legit. Its Not uncommon to have a Typo in Official Documents, it happens. If they were that pressed to make somthing fake, they woulda messed up more than just “Benefits”.

    Pretty good point someone made. Pre release then within 24 hours Apple hits the streets with their new Iphone. All that mojo should last Sprint 23 hours or so.

    not a good idea. You would think people would learn by now. No doubt the launch will be for Palm. The other side of things is that the people at Palm are idiots for launch, give or take four days before the new iPhone! regardless of which product is better. Apple will pull so much press there wont be much left for the Pre.

    Who? says:

    If there’s a “launch lunch” on the 5th the phone isn’t going to be released on the 5th. Who would schedule a lunch on what is supposed to be one of, if not the, biggest days in Palm and Sprint history? Actually, if you asked me who would do this, of all the companies out there, I’d say Sprint. But still, no way.

    Christopher Cox says:

    @YourMom,
    No I do not want a Pre. I have been with just about every carrier EXCEPT Sprint. I happen to be a gadget fanatic who purchases just about every device out there, and have been with Palm since my Palm IIIc days and ending with my LifeDrive. I have been waiting for Palms new OS ever since they bought BeOS in 2001, and here we are. So naturally I am curious about Pre. I just have my doubts in their decision to make everything cloud based and apps made using web standards.

    So yeah, I am experienced with Palm, as well as Windows Mobile all the way back before they called it PocketPC and ending with my Tilt, and several BlackBerry units. My favorite PDA is still the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500.

    OMG! I just Palm Pre’d in my pants… Seriously, when you think cool and trendy do you think Palm or do you think Apple? Palm and trendy should NEVER be used in the same sentence. I think they stone you in the middle east if you say those words together….
