Samsung announces Star S5230 and Preston S5600 touchscreen phones

Never resting on their laurels, Samsung has just cranked out two new touchscreen handsets for this year: Star S5230 and Preston S5600. There’s no mistaking these as Samsungs given their looks — you can tell they’re obviously related to the Instinct and the Behold. The S5230 is a 2.5G handset (really?) coupled with a 3-inch WQVGA display and the S5600 sports 3G and features a 2.8-inch QVGA display. No pricing is available but expect to hear about it soon as the handsets launch in Europe and Asia this month.

So many handsets with the same looks, almost (!) The same specs. Disappointing. At least RIM has amny devices as well but different styling, and the specs varies too. Look at the nwe ‘gemini’ yeah it lacks 3G but it has more memory, and a trackPad for a change. But samsung. Has 1 new product, followed by 3-4 cloned versions. What’s the point?

Yeah, Its not even catered to different demographics, and it dosent have different OS versions (like RIM) it seems that they just want to produce that many handsets so they’l top the charts one day.

I work in a cell phone accessory shop and when I played with the Samsung A867, the touchscreen was amazingly responsive for a resistive face. However, the majority of resistive touch phones on the market still suck major ass and Samsung are just dicking about with these phones. Why not only create a dozen phones every year, one for each demographic and make them spectacular?
