Do you guys know if Skype for the Blackberry will be released at WES 2009. RIM and Skype confirmed that it would be released in May 2009; and most people thought that the right moment to launch it in May would be WES 2009; but everything seems to be completely quiet. Any news?

buy some curve on ebay for cheap, and wait till july when the tour gets released so you can take advantage of the new contract discount.
you will be regretting if you buy a curve now @ the discounted price @ VZW, and come july you going to just look @ your friends with jealousy when they go around with a shiny ‘tour’. unless you got the $599+ to shell out for the Full retail price.
i bought an 8830 world edition 2 months before the curve got released, and im still bitching about it. i paid top FRP $$$$$$ for the curve.

@Bard, there are rumors of the Blackberry 9630 Tour coming to Verizon in August, which will be slightly bigger than the Curve but run 5.0. I would say wait for that, previews on here and other websites have been stellar so far.

Another question: the ol’ g/f is looking into a bb, and she’s looking at the 8330 on VZW. But it’s my understanding it won’t be receiving the 5.0 OS? should she stay away from that? She isn’t too keen on the storm yet. (She doesn’t have the patience for the Tour as I do, and even mine is waning).

Kevin from Crackberry said via twitter that there’s not going to be any major device announcements at WES this year, and it’s going to be very BES focused. Why would they do that? No offense to Blackberry, but devices draw a lot more attention than BES does.

The 30 dollar plan will be fine for you. If your company does not run BES you have no need for it. As for cost, as a person who went from an iphone on at&t to a bberry on VZW it all comes down to which network the people you talk to/contact most are on. When with at&t, besides the dropped calls, I was getting killed bc most of the people I knew were on verizon. Once I get tired of the drops and the overage bills (over 400.00 one month) I made the switch. On average however, cost is roughly the same with both of the above mentioned carriers. If you really want to save money you have to go to a 3rd or 4th rank carrier i.e sprint and t-mo.

That personal plan is unlimited data right? no restrictions?

I’m a newb at BB, this will be my first. I understand BES is the corporate server, and I’m not using BB at work (obviously since I don’t have one).

By going with the consumer level, does that mean I cannot receive work email? Would I want access to BES for any reason? What would I be missing out on?

I’m trying to choose btwn BB/VZW (my preference) or Iphone/ATT, and if the VZW plan is limiting whereas the ATT is not, makes sense to go to ATT.

I appreciate the help, b/c I obviously need a lot of it.
