AT&T’s Nokia E71x already available for 1¢

It looks like we’re not the only ones excited to see a desirable Symbian handset finally land on AT&T. Amazon.com is so excited in fact, it’s basically giving the phone away. AT&T’s slender new smartphone isn’t even a day old and it can already be had for the low, low price of 1¢. Seriously, just a penny — with free activation and free shipping! Of course the deal requires a 2-year contract but for Symbian fans, two years should be perfect. If the amount of time it took the company to launch the E71x is any indication, AT&T should just be releasing the N97 by the time your new contract is up. Those of you who have been begging for the E71x ever since we first scooped it back in November have probably already pulled the trigger at AT&T’s $99 price point, but no worries. $100 is hardly a tall order for the thinnest QWERTY smartphone in the world — plus FP2 bragging rights over your unlocked E71-carrying friends.

Thanks, Balki Bartokomous!

if you access a wifi connection that is open (at home, or a free hotspot like Panera bread, etc), you ARE NOT charged anything by AT&T or anyone. Some hotspots charge, but you will be prompted to put in credit card info. The only way AT&T will charge you is if you access the internet through AT&T whether it’s thru 3G, EDGE or through one of their hotspots.

    Thanks for the info.

Is there any documentation stating this just to be sure?

    Thanks

No. Trust me though, if a device has wifi capabilities, it cannot be limited to only AT&T wifi because that would defeat the purpose of wifi. By using wifi, you avoid using data services from the phone carrier. Also, you can actually install a VOIP application on your E71, and make free phone calls over wifi and not use any of your mobile minutes.

You can use free wifi hotspots, home, work, wherever. If you use Starbucks they will charge you.

There is no way to compare e71 and e71x. AT&T killed all great features that e71 has. e71x has no front camera for video calls, no radio, no sms reports, a lot of locked options and most terrible thing is lousy sound quality (ringing and headset). As I said AT&T killed all great features that e71 has with e71x!

just got mine at radioshack for $30 with a 2 year extension of my grandfathered family plan. They didn’t require me to get any data package but it was $10/MO for my line because its a family plan. also we pay $60 for 850 shared minutes and have like 1900 rollover lol. I HIGHLY SUGGEST anyone downloading fring! you can get it at fring.com . it is the only skype/voip client that actually calls through data and not a normal phone call so it doesn’t use minutes. i have used over 2000 minutes in the last month total and only 100 out of my plan because of fring paired with skype unlimited for $7 for 3 months. i also suggest anyone with an e71x to look into something called OPDA. it has saved my life getting a developer sertificate for my phone and hacking it to remove all AT&T restrictions. i even have free nav!
