Windows Mobile 6.5 cooked ROM appears for Verizon Samsung Omnia

Get those ROM flashing skills honed up as WoZZeR over at Modaco has cooked up the first Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the Samsung i910 Omnia. Leaked Windows Mobile 6. 1 ROMs with the GPS unlocked have been floating around for a a little while now but this the first Windows 6.5 ROM for the Omnia. The custom ROM has removed a slew of extra applications that come bundled with the Omnia, including VZ Navigator, VZ AppZone, Digital Frame, Shozu, Silver Inbox and more. It also includes a handful of useful applications including Google Maps, the Official Youtube player, and the WM 6.5 Facebook App. The flashing process is straight forward but anyone attempting such a procedure would be wise to peruse the entire thread for issues and errors encountered by others before diving in. More than one person has noted difficulty flashing with non-XP machines and via a USB 1.1 port. If you take the plunge and upgrade your Omnia to 6.5 though, hit us up in the comments with your first impressions.

I am actually the one who tipped Poweruser about this. I have flashed to the new ROM and it works EXCELLENT so far. I am lovin me some 6.5 action. Its pretty darn sweet. I am however one of the people who had issues flashing it with Vista. UMDL kept shutting down on me, but as soon as I went to my XP machine I had no problems. Thanks again WoZ if you check out BGR (what respectable geek doesnt)!

Why is this front page news? There are about 10 different 6.5 rom cookers for the Fuze and each have done about 3 roms.

Yo, put some pep in that step!

I need one for my Samsung Saga.

    N.O.W.

P.S. reenable my GPS since Verizon has hurt us customers by not allowing LB apps on the device due to VZNavigator greed. Monopoly. Where are the lawyers? Asleep per usual.

The initial leaked rom really did wonders for it’s speed, touch sensitivity, and scrolling. that has been a treat. although this rom is in it’s beta stage, it’s not too bad. I personally went back to someone elses new rom (Adrynalynes). less problems and am using point ui’s program- you got to try that. will be following wozzers progress. one thing’s for sure, if u own an omnia, you need to flash the leaked rom. u will not believe the improvements.

I downloaded and saved the app to my memory car/storage card and for some reason its not working. Does anyone know how to rememdy the situation? Please help I am desperate to get this to work. Hulu works on my friends IPHONE and I want to show that the OMNIA can do all the IPHONE can do.

Skip the flash players (flashlite and flash7) go straight to skyfire.com The skyfire browser is the only way to be sure the web video will play everytime. Just be sure to disable the sleep function or it will get annoying on the longer videos. Also I agree the Leaked 6.1 Verizon ROM is a dream, 6.5 is still too young.

I’ve used WoZ’s rom and Adren’s rom for 6.5 and gotta say that WoZ is faster and more compatible. Adrenaline’s isn’t bad though. Omnia seems to shred the 6.5 OS though :)
