Confirmed: Samsung Alias 2 to launch May 11th for $79
Thanks to one of our ninjas we just got our hands on the launch details for the upcoming Samsung Alias 2. As rumored, the Alias 2 will launch in all channels on May 11th. It will shed the cramped dual QWERTY-numeric keyboard of the original Alias in favor of a dynamic electronic ink keyboard known as the “Magic Keypad”. Those who appreciate the slim form factor of the original Alias will be happy to know that the Alias 2 sports similar dimensions. Pricing on the new QWERTY V CAST phone will come in at an exceptionally low $79.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate and two-year contract. A one-year contract will set you back $149 after a $50 mail-in-rebate or you can pony up $249 for full retail. Hit the jump for a full rundown of the official specs and a closeup of the “Magic Keypad”.
Thanks, Patrick!

Wonder if Bell/Telus will be scrambling to get this in their lineup?
I posted these prices a few days ago…
What’s the difference between ‘fat chance’ and ’slim chance’?
This phone, lol.
i do not appreciate the size of this. its too wide and thick. i hope at least its not the same cheap “plastic” build that the 1st one is.
also is EVDO digital only the new standard @ vzw ? or do they still have those dual mode thing going.
It would help if we could see the pricing package pic.
details I mean
@hima
the pricing for the phone is at the bottom right of the top image, to the left of the aqua/blue with the $50 MIR.
@joecurve 2nd sentence
That’s what she said!
Kelly,
Will you be reviewing this phone to find out how well the electronic ink keyboard works?
@joecurve
how much thinner could they have made it without sacrificing the size of the keys? and yes, it’s digital-only. it’s been that way for some time now as the phasing out of analog was federally required.
@ kelly
is it the same “plastic” body that of the original one
Is there anyway you could post a larger size of the picture you have? if you have one that is!
I meant a bigger image of the first picture so I can read all the stuff on it but thanks. xD
Did anyone else giggle at “magic keyboard”? Cause I did. But just a little.
Does EVDO only mean this phone will sport Rev-A speeds but no 1x/RTT support?
all i wana know is if it’s bigger or the same size as the 1str one?
o and are there going to be nicer colors?
this phone is so cool! I myself have this phone. its kinda bulky but the full key board is so worth it.
