Slacker for BlackBerry hits 1 million downloads; free Slacker Radio Plus giveaway!

There are a few big players out there when it comes to customized Internet radio but lately, Slacker seems to be shining brighter than the rest. This past week, the company announced two major milestones: First, Slacker now has well over 2 million songs in its library. For comparison sake that’s about four times the size of Pandora’s library. Beyond that, in less than four months since the app was released, Slacker’s BlackBerry offering has already hit the 1 million download mark. Wow. It took just over 16 weeks to reach a million downloads and support for station caching and stereo Bluetooth no doubt helped it get there as quickly as it did. So how is Slacker celebrating the occasion? By hooking a few BGR readers up, that’s how. Hit the jump for your chance to win a free 1-year Slacker Radio Plus subscription courtesy of Slacker and your pals here at BGR.
Now as a general rule, BGR readers are a hard working bunch. We’re pretty sure however, that there are a few “slackers” in our audience and thanks to Slacker Radio, we’ve got a giveaway lined up just for you. The Slacker app for BlackBerry is completely free of course, as is the standard Slacker Radio service. Slacker also offers a premium service however — Slacker Radio Plus — that provides several benefits over the standard option. Radio Plus features include unlimited song skips, unlimited song requests, complete lyrics, no audio or banner ads and access to the Slacker Mini Player (Windows XP SP2 or greater required). As affordable as the service is at $3.99 per month, a true slacker might have a little trouble coming up with the dough. As such, we’re giving away a few free 1-year Slacker Radio Plus subscriptions to slackers in need. Here’s the deal:
- Leave a comment below telling us why you’re a true slacker, thus needing a helping hand in order to upgrade your Slacker Radio service
- One comment per person, please
- You must currently have a registered Slacker account in order to enter (Don’t have one? Go sign up now!)
- We’ll run the giveaway this weekend only, through tomorrow at 11:59PM ET
- The contest is only open to residents of the USA — sorry!
On Monday, we’ll read through everyone’s entries and choose the three slackingest slackers to win one free 1-year Slacker Radio Plus subscription each. Those subscriptions will no doubt help you attain new levels of slackerdom amateur slackers couldn’t even dream of. As for the rest of you hard working people, hit Slacker.com if you haven’t already checked out the service and download the BlackBerry app directly to your handset via BlackBerry App World.

I need some slacker in my life , in this economic times.
I’m the kind of Slacker who can’t be bothered to program his own favorite artist stations on Pandora…
I need Slacker Plus!
I’m such a slacker I decided never to do too much in a day, so I had to choose between writing this and going to work. since I love music way more I called out to write this and hopefully get a free year.
I’m to lazy to go to the website and input my credit card number…just gimme a freebie
I work for a city in washinton state i wear a reflective vest all day long and slacker sits in my breast pocket rocking out while i do the mundane jobs that make civilazation possible.
Can you say “water damage”?
I Slack daily. I used to Slack as I rode around town on my motorcycle. But recently I’ve been confined to slacking on my own two feet, and the city bus. What was a 20 minute commute is now a “3 hour tour” around town. I slack at least 6 hours a day.
If not for Slacker, I would have to listen to FM radio(;
Im so much of a slacker….ZZZZ
I want the upgrade cause I don’t want to pay for it
I want the upgrade because I don’t want to pay for it!!!
I’m so slacker that I have an iPhone but don’t bother putting any music in the iPod. I’ve got 5 customized stations and while working at AT&T listen to it at all times.
I’m a slacker only part of the time. Since I’m a full time student, and work 2 jobs, I think I have a right to be a slacker since I’m up at 5am 5 days a week, and work 7 days a week! Please congratulate this slacker with sum slacker plus =].
ps, I promise to love you forever BGR!
As an airline pilot i travel all over the country and I can never find a good radio station in each city I visit. with Slacker, i always have what i want, when I want and wherever I am.
Why do I consider myself a slacker? Well its Sunday, I have a physics, chemistry and biology final on Tuesday and i’m on BGR.
After a good, I don’t know, 3, maybe 4 minutes of heart-pounding giggity-giggity action with this bombshell I met last night, I was in the mood for a little more.
“Hey, uh, round two?”
“Uh no, no,” she gasped, “That little Pandora of yours just isn’t cutting it — it’s cute and all, don’t get me wrong, but it just doesn’t do much for me. I’m more of a Slacker chick, anyway.”
Slack on.
1 year of Slacker Plus? That would be Awesome! Too bad Apple doesn’t allow caching on Slacker like they do with BB.
Military fire fighter here, I need to be able to listen to good music while I train so I can save lives
I’m slacking so much that I don’t even care enough to tell you how much of a slacker I really am.
I am the slackiest slacker around- in fact I am too lazy to go to any other website until you announce a winner, so in the mean time I need for you to let me know:
1. the 7 day forecast for zip 23456
2. woot.com’s deal of the day
3. the current status of the swine flu
4. 3 new iPhone rumors
5. what is happening at phonescoop.com- err, nevermind- their “news” today was on BGR 2 weeks ago
Thanks- hook a slacker up!
Slacker helps this “stay-at-home” mom keep her sanity several times a day. I’m just sayin’…
Since there is no client for winmo I bought a version 1 player. Having to deal with all of the bugs and constant reboots should be worth an account upgrade
I would love to have Slacker Plus
plz
basically i’ve hit a ruff patch with $$$ and this would diffently help me not spend any $$$ that i don’t have right now!!!!
thanks Slacker & thanks BGR
